I have been waiting for some time to review this. I am a big Final Fantasy fan, and this OVA along with anime Final Fantasy Ultimate, is the only one that there is. So just at the beginning let me tell you, if you are a fan of this series, go and watch this immediately.
But if you are not, you might look at this review and see will you like this. At first you may notice that this OVA is made by Square Enix. That is a huge and one of the most known companies, mostly of RPG video games. And where you may know it? Well, mostly otakus have watched Kuroshitsuji (Black butler) and by that you may notice how the animations and drawings are quite similar. Mostly the effects and colors. And that is actually a very good thing. Because like that anime, here they are just amazing as well.
One other thing that you may take in notice, is that this anime will be probably confusing, if you haven't played Final Fantasy VII or watched Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. But still, if you watch this several times and maybe find some more information on the internet, it might be good for you. And even that, this OVA is only like 25 minutes filled with action and some nice details of the story. So you might see this, because here happens one of the most awesome scenes from that anime and battle between Zack (one of the most awesome good characters) and Sephiroth (one of the best villains in every categories). And there is a scene with Cloud as well, and much with Tifa. So all in all, this is pretty good and a very different anime that you have used to. And the story may seems much darker, inner, and bigger. That is why it is. It is really unique and good.
And I have to say something more. And that is about the soundtrack. You would think that an anime that is like 25 minutes long, may have only a small collection of music. Well trust me, this anime has a whole soundtrack just for that one episode OVA. I am serious and it is pretty good too. They could just use the music from the game or movie, but they went with creating a separate soundtrack and they did a good job in that.
And at the end to say that it is obvious that this OVA has been made for fans, and even in that it has it's flaws. And that is with the story, it is missed somewhat from the original one. If you have played the game you will know. If you haven't then... Enjoy this, because you will definitely like it!
Animations and drawings: 9/10 - This is just good. Especially the number of frames on which it moves and all the effects there. Very nicely done.
Story: 7/10 - At first watching the story is so confusing, and the story is a little different if you already played the game.
OST and effects: 9/10 - The soundtrack is great. The voice acting is even better!
Entertainment: 8.5/10 - I just enjoy watching this, over and over again.
Overall: 8.5/10 - A very good OVA, that is mostly made for fans, but can please anyone.
