You know what? I WAS reading a synopsis of the manga. Isn't it annoying when stories diverge like that? Yes, I know they had to censor some stuff in the Naruto anime (teen smoking for one), but why change something just for the heck of it? All I can say is that the manga synopsis made a lot more sense.
I haven't read the manga, mostly because of the weird translations (Art of the Doppelganger, anyone?). But then again, I didn't know at the time that manga translations are inconsistent with the anime... and from volume to volume! I've seen more ridiculous, nonsensical typos in the Death Note manga than I wanted to. And the the translators of FMA can't decide on a spelling for "Ishval" (even when it was spelled that way in an illustration of a map, it was spelled "Ishbal" in a speech bubble next to it). Also, although I haven't read it yet, I hear there are all kinds of misspellings in the "more accurately translated" Sailor Moon manga. I know I'm getting off on a big tangent here, but I wish manga translators would be more careful.
Call it karma. Call it luck. Me, I just don't give a... BOUNCE!

@Keba Si Rota:
The garbled version I thought was SECK-less, but the real one is ZURK-zees.
