I commend you on your thoroughness! I basically winged it all throughout SoulSilver, but I did beat the game in about 16 [nonconsecutive] hours. I did go and buy the walkthrough guide for Black, though.
Yeah, and I forgot to mention how thorough I am with my Pokemon games. I would spend hours calculating and perfecting everything about every Pokemon I had. I never did beat either Yellow or Silver, much less "catch 'em all". Heck, I never even wielded a legendary Pokemon of my own (though I came very close to catching a Raikou).
They do look cool, don't they? I was thinkin' about getting a summer job so I can get a 3DS. Don't know if I'd get X or Y... but I do know they probably would be life-consuming since you'd be skipping four generations.
Take your time; I'm in no hurry for the picture. I am excited about it, though.
Also, I'm a Pokemon fan, too. I haven't played a game since Gen II, though. I'm afraid that the new games will consume my life if I were to relearn them. Still, those Gen VI games look amazing.
