What is doujinshi?
Doujinshi is typically used to refer to Japanese fan-made comics and is the active definition for this site's purposes. However, the term isn't restricted to just comics.
Most doujinshi artists are amateurs, although some professionals dabble in it too. In fact, many professional manga creators started out as doujinshi authors, CLAMP being one of the most famous examples.
There is some special terminology as well when it comes to doujinshi:
Circle - The name of the group of doujinshi artist(s)
Parody - Refers to the series the doujinshi hails from
Genre - The type of content inside; Romance, Comedy, Action, etc.
Keep in mind, there will be no explicit content in this World. Yes, there are plenty of doujinshi that pander to that audience, however we will not show any of it here. You may still see shounen-ai or shoujo-ai, but it will all be clean.
Also, be warned that there are likely going to be spoilers. Read on at your own risk.

Next week won't be .hack, I promise.

Parody: .hack//G.U. -- Title: Haseo1/24
Pages: 26 -- Genre: Comedy/Serious
Publication Date: August 2006
Sneak Peek: Pg 1 -- Pg 2 -- Pg 3
Synopsis: A collection of 4koma comics on the Twilight Brigade days, a story about mistaken identity, and a little sit down with Matsu.
Writer Opinion: This doujin is sort of a mixed bag of fun for me. There are some really funny gags in here, especially the one where Silabus mistakes Doppleganger for Haseo and takes him back to the Canard @home for tea (Pg 1). The cover is also really nice, and is the whole reason why I bought this in the first place.
However, I find the art is almost generically pretty. It's nice, but there's nothing extremely unique about it to pull me in.
Recommendation: Low-Medium. There's some good gags in there and the cover is really nice, but it just seems too generic in the end. If you like Haseo a lot though, you might enjoy it more than I did.

Parody: .hack//G.U. -- Title: Ovation!
Pages: 26 -- Genre: Comedy
Publication Date: March 11, 2007
Sneak Peek: Pg 1 -- Pg 2 -- Pg 3
Synopsis: A short collection of gags centering around particular events in the G.U. story.
Writer Opinion: I keep thinking, "There's no reason for me to like this doujin, yet I do." If you look at it, it's pretty much an average gag doujinshi. However, there's something about it that's caught my eye.
For one, I find the art style unique and fun to look at. Second, some of the gags themselves are pretty damn funny, like the one where Zelkova headbutts Sakaki with his horns (preview Pg 2).
However, a lot of these funny gags depend on a lot of dialogue, which is troublesome for those who can only read a bit of Japanese.
Still, I likes it, even if the guest comic (Pg 3) is a little weird...
Recommendation: Medium. The gags, once you get them, are pretty funny and the art is rather unique. However, due to the huge reliance on text, those who can't read much Japanese should probably bump the recommendation down a bit.

For the past few weeks, I've been posting about doujins I really love and just go ga-ga for.
Well, now it's time to mix it up a bit...

Parody: .hack//G.U. -- Title: Trash Box
Pages: 16 -- Genre: Comedy
Publication Date: May 3, 2007
Sneak Peek: Pg 1 -- Pg 2 -- Pg 3
Synopsis: A short collection of gags ranging from discussion of Pi's character design, wedding events with Gabi, and... really, what the heck, Ovan?!
Writer Opinion: Okay, so this isn't a masterpiece. The art can be pretty, but it is a bit strange at times when it tries to do chibis. The gags themselves are all right, but not really that funny. Although, to be fair, one of my favorite gags is in this doujin - involving Bordeaux, Gabi and the wedding event (see preview page 1). And hey, there is some Shino in it, which I always like (see Pg 3).
However, it's just not enough for me to fall in love with this one. It's just... "eh".
Recommendation: Low-Medium. It's okay, but not necessarily worth the money. If you like the circle, you could bump the recommendation up to a full Medium.

Title: アトリ!行きます!(Atoli! GO!)
Pages: 28 -- Genre: Comedy
Publication Date: September 2, 2007
Sneak Peek: Pg 1 -- Pg 2 -- Pg 3
Synopsis: In the Forest of Pain, Haseo and Kuhn wait for Atoli to arrive. But, once she does, some strange things start coming out of that hat of hers. First it's Ovan's glasses, then a metal pipe, and then Ovan himself!
A guest comic further illustrates Atoli's craziness.
Writer Opinion: I bought this doujin because of Shino (see Pg 3 preview). However, I love this doujin because it's the best gag doujinshi I've ever purchased. You don't even need to read the Japanese, the images themselves tell the hilarious tale. This may sound like lip service, but it's true. Obviously, this circle knows .hack and knows how to make fun of it in just the right ways. Besides the great jokes, the art itself is very nice and further aids the comedic tone.
A guest comic is also included, but it's not nearly as funny as the main comic.
Recommendation: Very High. If you like .hack and you see this doujinshi anywhere, buy it.

The Doujinshi Parlor's first official entry! And tis fitting indeed that the first entry should be the first doujinshi I ever received...

Parody: .hack//Roots & G.U.
Title: the world's edge -- Pages: 20 -- Genre: Romance
Publication Date: December 29, 2006
Sneak Peek: Pg 1 -- Pg 2
Synopsis: Set during .hack//Roots episodes 6-7, the Twilight Brigade is still having it rough with TaN. In the midst of all this, Shino and Haseo manage to have a little private moment...
Writer Opinion: As a fangirl, I love this doujin. Not only is it feasibly possible such a thing occurred/could have happened, but the HaseoxShino fluff itself is quite lovely. Very simple, very in-character, and the art itself is very shoujo-pretty. There's also some funny commentary in the back involving Haseo and Endrance.
Not only that, but it's fairly easy to read. People who know basic hiragana and katakana will be able to follow along with most of it, if the imagery itself doesn't do the trick.
Recommendation: High. Especially if you like cute, simple n' sweet HaseoxShino waff. But, if you don't like the pairing, then you probably shouldn't bother.
