Chapter Three: F r i e n d

Occasionally, another grandchild would come to visit. She was a year older than I, and I cherished the times when she was there.

When she visited, I somewhat enjoyed my time there, I finally had someone of my age group to talk to. However, all good things must come to an end.

When my friend came over, we were allowed to play upstairs--away from the boys. We would laugh and play with our Barbies from the moment she arrived until we had to come downstairs to eat dinner.

After lunch, my daycare lady asked me to come with her to her bedroom.

By now, I knew what she was going to do--check my weight like she does every couple of weeks.

She questioned my weight again, "40.4 lbs. You're skin and bones. WHY DON'T YOU EAT?"

"B-But I do" I blurted.

"DON'T YOU LIE TO ME!"

"Y-Yes, I won't" I shivered.

She grabbed my hand, and we went into the dining room.

She shoved me to the table, and ordered that I sit.

"Y-Yes" I uttered.

She busied herself by loading my plate with steak and potatoes.

T-That's way too much--I can't possibly eat all that!

She put on a face that read "Eat it. All of it."

Against my will, I picked up my fork, and began to consume the massive meal.

Fifteen minutes lapsed, and in that time, my friend had passed by without saying a word.

Bet SHE told her not to talk to me.

It felt as though a watermelon had grown in my stomach--I could not eat another bite with half the lunch remaining.

I made a horrible decision. To hide.

My babysitter was outside, I thought that was a good time to escape. I tip-toed back upstairs, and hid behind the dollhouse.

The front door slammed.

I can't eat anymore, please don't get me I pleaded.

Footsteps grew closer.

I saw a familiar face--my friend.

I whispered, "Hi, do you want to play?"

"GRANDMA!"

Tears welled in my eyes "I thought I could trust you! Why? Why did you call her?"

She looked confused, "What do you mean? She was looking for you!"

Louder footsteps climbed the stairs.

I sobbed.

She whispered something to her granddaughter, and my "friend" exited the room, and shut the door.

"SHUT UP! STOP YOUR CRYING" She shouted.

She forced me into her arms, and we descended to the lower level.

I squirmed, trying to escape.

She smirked.

When we reached the living room, I was thrust into a couch.

I whimpered at the intense pain.

"GO TO SLEEP" She demanded.

I closed my eyes, and every so often, I opened them.

She saw this, and had the kids build a pillow fort around me, so I couldn't "See the TV". Both of her grandchildren wore smiles on their faces in the process of suffocating me.

Everything went black.

Five hours later, I was woken up from my babysitter and my mother.

The daycare lady said, "Look at her, she must've been tired! She slept half the day!"

My mom laughed, "Ready to go home, Super Flea?"

I nodded rapidly.

"Have a good weekend" She smiled.

"We will" My mom replied.

I never saw my "friend", or those Barbies again.
