Before Light

Ok this is what happened to the Death Note before it became Light’s. I had some help with the main idea from a friend.

Mellow looked in the mirror at his reflection scowling back at him. It was Saturday, and most of the children in the House were out going about their own business. Near had gone to the toy store, Matt disappeared into a Game Stop near the House, Soji disappeared into a jail called a bookstore , and Ryuza went to the gym. There is nothing to do! Mellow sighed.
Mellow washed his face and went into the kitchen. It was only nine in the morning, but it was completely empty. Well I could always get some chocolate. Mellow thought happily. Mellow opened the refrigerator and felt shock run through him like the blast of cold air that had slapped his face. There was no food in the fridge! Roger must have gone out to go buy more food.
Mellow walked out of the House and into the fresh air. It was a spring day, but the temperature made it feel like summer. Venders and children crowded the streets. Mellow stared out and proceeded down the street. From across the street, Mellow could see Matt playing one of the free trials of a game displayed near the window. Mellow thought to go get him, but then stopped. Matt is happy. There is no reason to make him suffer boredom with me.
Mellow continued down and spotted Near’s toy store. Near was nowhere in sight, so Mellow moved on. Soji’s bookstore was coming up, and this time and Mellow stopped and walked inside. The cool air was nice. Soji was reading something near the back about the configuration of cells in a body. Behind her unknown to any of them at the time was Mikami reading about law and order.
“Hey Soji!” Mellow called. The entire bookstore looked up at him and told him to shush. Mellow though of a few choice curses to use but dismissed them when he saw the look Soji was giving him. The expression of the “eyes of death” was written by William Shakespeare that Mellow had been forced to read in class. Now he understood the “eyes of death.” These were the eyes Soji was giving him at the moment. Mellow walked towards her despite his constant protest from all of his nerves.
“Mellow, what do you want?” Soji hissed angrily.
Mikami who had been watching the entire procession was trying to keep a straight face and was failing. This girl was very mad, and she was going to release it all here in a private showing. Now if only God would let me see these shows more often. Mikami thought. (This is before Light finds the Note, but Mikami still believes in God to a high exstent.)
“I was just board, and….um….,” Mellow had lost his words in a drain of mumbiling.
“You could get me kicked out of here!” Soji hissed under a smile of kindness. The contrast between her features and her voice are scary, Mellow thought.
Soji grabbed a black book from the shelf behind her not looking at it and threw it at Mellow with the force of a base ball pitcher. K.O. by Soji, Mellow dazedly fled the premises.
“Wait!” Soji called. Mellow had taken the black book with him. “Baka,” Soji swore.
“Miss? Are you going to pay for the book that man just took?” a cashier asked.
“Um…what book was it?” Soji asked.
“It is an old title by a person called Ryuk. There was only one copy put into circulation, and it has been in here for a long time. It’s called Death Note. It is only fifty yen. Are you going to pay for it?”
“Fine,” Soji sighed, handed over the fifty yen, and sat back down in her spot. Teru Mikami bought his law and order book and exited the bookstore.
Mellow ran blindly through the streets until he was out of breath and had to stop. It was at that time that Mellow realized that he had a book in his hand.
“Death Note hu? Is this the book that Soji threw at me? Well I have nothing better to do, let’s take a look inside,” Mellow sighed. His lips moved with the words written in the book, “the human whose name is written in this Note shall die. This Note will not take effect unless the writer has the face of the person in his or her mind when writing the name. What is this crap! Stupid book! And after that it’s blank. What do they expect? Do they think I’d actually kill someone? That is so stupid! I wonder if I could trade it to someone for something.”
Looking around, Mellow realized that he had run all the way to Game Stop. Matt was still playing in the window, and as his score continued to escalate, people were gathering to watch. Mellow pushed open the door and was flooded with cheers as Matt broke the previous record. Someone had gotten him a cigarette, but it stayed pressed against Matt’s lips unlit.
“Tobacco chewing,” Mellow sighed. It was Matt’s new way to stop smoking. He had tried so many times before to stop smoking, and this was his final straw. As Mellow pushed his way through the crowd, Mellow was pushed up against a man watching Matt play.
“Hey! Watch it! You can’t just bump Hiro Kazame and get away with it!” the man said angrily.
“Shut up f****r,” Mellow growled back.
“What did you just say?” Hiro yelled.
Remembering the Death Note, Mellow got out the book and proceeded to write the man’s name down. It was just meant as a shock to the man, but when Mellow finished and showed the note to the man, Hiro screamed and ran out of the building. Little did Mellow know that Hiro Kazame died that day half a block away.
“I knew this thing really didn’t work,” Mellow said aloud, “Hey Matt! Time to go home!”
“Fine,” Matt said, stopped, and put the game controller into the hands of a child no more than ten. “Go for it kid,” Matt smiled. Later in life that boy would grow up to be a professional game designer bound and determined to push the limit of gaming as Matt had done. As they walked out of the Game Stop, Mellow threw the Death Note to the ground and stepped on it.
Teru Mikami stared at this interesting book. He had been walking down the street when he saw the loud blond haired boy from earlier. This must be the book that the girl threw at him. Let’s take a look inside. Mikami read the rules and nearly laughed himself to death. There was no way any of it could be true. Only God could do that! He is the judgment of the world. Mikami walked a little ways past a toy shop and left it on a side bench.
Near stared out of the confines of his self-entwined prison. Several of his trains were going at once, but it was becoming boring now, and so he stood and walked out of the toy store. His clothes were not pajamas but still comfortable clothes. He walked a little ways back to the House when he saw the Note.
“Death Note,” Near read, “That is stupid and terrible. It deserves to be thrown off one of those skyscrapers.” Near smiled at his thought and began his trek to the closest skyscraper. Coincidentally, the nearest skyscraper was the Yotsuba building. Near got on the elevator with several eyes staring at him coyly. He reached the top and threw the Note off the building.
The Note fell farther and farther to the ground, but it was stopped by a flying shinigami named Ryuk.
“What the hell?” Ryuk asked, “It’s my Note! I’ve been looking for it! Crud, I though looking for my Note would be more fun. Maybe I’ll let it fall and wait five days. If nothing happens, then I’ll go steal more apples from those idiot farmers. (Actually at that time there was an apple famine in the U.S.) Hopefully it will be more fun. Well, later Note!”
Ryuk threw the Note once again into the human world where it would be later found by Light Yagami.

Soji's Note

Soji Note
The human whose name is written in this Note shall be beaten up by Seta Soji until they cry.

Light looked at the Note left on the ground. It resembled his Death Note, and yet on the front were the words “Soji Note.” What it amounted to was a name. Soji meant nothing in English or Japanese. Light stared at it from his school window dazedly. His Death Note was packed safely away in the desk he had designed back home, but here laying in the exact same place the Death Note was left was a Soji Note. As the end of school was sounded by the chiming of bells, Light walked out to the Soji Note. It was black and leather bound just like the Death Note, but people seemed to ignore it as they had the Death Note. I wonder if Soji is the name of a shinigami. Light thought. It was plausible to a certain extent, but as Light touched the Soji Note and found no shinigami watching over it, he opened the Note.
Inside the Note were a set of rules just like the Death Note, but these were far weirder. The first one stated that the human whose name was written in the Not shall be beaten up by Seta Soji until they cry. What kind of Note is that? Light wondered.
The second was even more buzzer than the first. If you write the cause of being beaten up, the person will be beat up that way. If you don’t write the cause, the person will simply be beaten up by a rampaging Seta Soji. This is so a fake Light thought, but the eerily similarities between the two forced Light to take the Note and put it in his bag.
Soji lay staring at the ceiling of her room at the House. There was nothing to do, and her newest book had been finished three hours ago. Ryuza had suggested going outside and playing a sport, but Soji knew from past experiences that she sucked and that was that. Then Amy tried to convince her to hear one of the stories of the great three successors which Soji instinctively tuned out. A fan circulated air currents through the room, but Soji felt it was still too hot. It was as if a fire were burning somewhere in the House. Suddenly things began to grow blurry and fogged. She felt her body move off the bed, but was not sure what was happening. It was as if she was seeing herself from another point of view. Somehow she had changed into her karate clothes and was walking down the Tokyo Street and towards a prison. Then Soji did something she felt broke every law of physics imaginable. She walked through a wall!
The prison was dark and depressing, but the faces of prisoners created depth to the otherwise bleak area. Soji felt no hate to any of the people there, but she suddenly went on a rampaged and beat the daylights out of one of the prisoners. Then her body commanded her to walk away, but she did not go home. Instead, she walked down foreign streets and wound up at the house of Light Yagami. Soji scaled the siding easily and climbed through Light’s window.
Light looked up as a green haired girl came through his window. The Soji Note was still on his desk, and he had tested it on one of the criminals in a local jail. The fogginess went from Soji’s mind, and once more she had control.
“You!” Soji nearly yelled, “What in hell did you do?!”
Light was thrown back by the angry words of this green haired girl. She said the most fowl things in both English and Japanese. Swearing almost sounded like her religion. As Soji heard herself yelling, she began to wonder what was wrong with her. She had never been this mad before. That was something that Mellow usually did.
“Now tell me what you did!” Soji finished after a long rant about how Light must have been born in a trash bin in Afghanistan to be such a bad person.
“I have no idea what you were yelling about,” Light answered as calmly as possible to this angry demon like girl.
“You did something! I just walked through a wall and beat up a guy in jail till he cried!” Soji flared at Light.
“It worked?” Light asked stunned. So a person really did get beaten up if he wrote the name down. This could be very useful.
“What do you mean it worked?! Was it some kind of drug that makes hallucinations or did I really just walk through a wall and then scale your house to get in!” Soji asked angrily shaking Light like a toy.
Light slipped his hand towards the Soji Note, but Soji noticed it first.
“A Soji Note? What are you a kind of stalker?” Soji asked her temper about to explode.
“That Note is nothing!” Light said too hastily and Soji read his action as scrupulous and grabbed up the Note. As her eyes read over the rules, Soji felt anger go through her like a bullet. Was this the form of control? Even if it wasn’t I have to destroy it and beat the daylights out of this guy.
Soji looked to some homework that Light had been doing and read off his name.
“Light Yagami,” Soji read as she wrote the name in this book. In a split second she was back in the hallucination and was beating up Light. Finally he was knocked out and beads of tears escaped from his eyes. So the book works! Well you will never control me again! Soji grabbed the book and climbed down from the window.
Back at the Wammery House, Soji burned the Note in the back yard so no one could use it again. Then she looked out at the beautiful new day that had formed, went back to her room, kicked Amy out, and went to sleep.

Mello Laughes

Note: This was after Misa gave up her memories, but before Mellow got his face burnt. Yes I know that there is no place in the real story for this ever to exist, but I liked writing it. Oh and this also happened before Mellow burnt the hell out of his face. Please forgive me Mellow fan girls I loved writing this!

“Mellow!” Matt exclaimed, “I have found out the name of Misa Amane’s boyfriend! And after all that work watching her for God knows how many days! His name is Light, and he plans to see Misa at a restaurant tomorrow!”
Mellow pressed his head up against his cell phone harder to make sure he was hearing it right. He was standing outside a convenience store about to order one frozen chocolate Popsicle when Matt had called. The sales clerk looked at Mellow peculiarly and seemed to be trying to decide if Mellow was the type of person he wanted in his store. The clerk did not get a chance to tell Mellow to leave before the blonde haired boy walked away and out the door gripping his cell-phone with one hand and his head.
“Mellow? Are you still there?” Matt asked confused at Mellow’s silence. Matt was sure that Mellow would be very pleased, but the silence was unnerving.
“Good job Matt. I’ll be there soon,” Mellow answered into the phone.
Mellow flipped his cell-phone closed and stuffed it in his back pocket. A motorcycle and helmet were waiting for him parallel parked on the street. The motorcycle was handmade under Mellow’s strict supervision and painted black with white skull peering out from the front head light. The bike was obviously made for speed and sat the rider forward and shielded him with plexy glass. Black leather engulfed the front seat as well as the seat behind used for passengers. A meter ticked backwards to zero and told him he only had ten more minutes before he would be ticketed, but he needed to leave early. One leg was thrown across the bike and fell into the foot hold near one of the exhaust engines. The other was lifted and fell into the other slot in the bike. A key with a chocolate bar keychain from the Willy Wonka factory in Minneapolis was shoved into the ignition and turned clockwise. The engine purred in response and roared as Mellow sped into the street and down another. It was only a few seconds before Mellow was at the apartment he and Matt shared at the moment. Matt was sprawled out on the couch smoking one of his cigarettes with a video game in his hands as Mellow entered.
“So, Misa will be meeting her boyfriend Light at a restaurant tomorrow. We must hurry and put up surveillance and bug the place,” Mellow started.
“That won’t work,” Matt stated flatly, “I checked this restaurant and found that it was more of an outdoor café. The sounds of the outside will make it impossible to detect whose voices are whose, and the cameras could be blocked by all the moving people and things. The only way to really get the job done is to go undercover.”
“Well we are both guys! How are we supposed to do that?” Mellow asked angrily. Then as the though hit him, Mellow froze. “No way!” Mellow protested.
“Come on Mellow, we need more information, and you already have semi-long hair. I think you would look good as a Misa,” Matt laughed happily.
“No f*****g way!” Mellow protested once again.
Mellow banged his head against the wall. How had Matt managed to get him to do it? How had he managed to make Mellow do it? How was the question everyone wanted to know, and those with the correct answer would win the solid gold cubie doll.
Matt moved around measuring Mellow from all angles even with Mellow protesting still. Matt went out and bought clothes that he had seen Misa wear on normal days, and began dressing Mellow.
“I don’t have a bust!” Mellow began, “there is no way I can pull it off!” He felt confident in his argument.
“Don’t worry, I already thought of that!” Matt smiled, “girls do this a lot in the magazines that I look at.”
Matt forced Mellow into a bra stuffed and glued with tiny balloons covered in cotton balls. Mellow continued to squirm as Matt forced him into the pants and shirt that he had picked out. It was of the actual Misa clothes line and looked good on Mellow’s thin figure.
“Matt, I am going to kill you for this,” Mellow growled.
“But you look good! Now we have to prepare more for tomorrow!”
The day passed quickly as Mellow and Matt prepared for the day to come. Matt set up what cameras he could and prepared his car to kidnap Misa. Well it wasn’t a real kidnapping, all he was going to do was stall and then once Mellow was safely away with information, he would drive the real Misa to the café and drive away. Misa would be waiting for her ride at her apartment, and all Matt had to do was cancel the ride that had been originally asked and drive his car to wait for her.
Things moved smoothly and as planned. Mellow was dropped off in his Misa disguise, and Matt went to meet Misa. All night Mellow had been practicing his peppy girl talk by watching shows that were played by Misa. Matt had even thought of the idea that Mellow could explain that he had wanted a haircut as an excuse for its shortness. Mellow stood and watched Matt drive away with the look of sheer terror on his face.
“Dam Matt!” Mellow growled. A few people turned their heads, and Mellow was forced to smile and laugh girly. As the people began to move on, Mellow silently cursed at them inside his head. Mellow moved forward and looked for someone sitting alone at a table. There was no one there that looked like they were waiting for someone, so Mellow sat down by himself. A few minutes later, Mellow heard a voice calling “Misa.” He looked up.
I recognize that face! Mellow thought as he saw Light Yagami once again. (If you don’t understand where they have seen each other, read Light Dreams.) That was the man that I punched that one night for crying about his friend. Could this really be?
“Misa? What are you doing?” Light asked wondering why Misa was staring at him in the way that Mellow was.
“Oh Light!” Mellow started remembering who he was supposed to be.
“You look pale, Misa. Are you ok?” Light asked. Even with her memories gone, I have to stay her boyfriend or things will take a turn for the worst, Light thought.
“Oh Light! Thanks for asking, but I’m fine!” Mellow strained to sound like Misa as much as possible. He has to buy it! He has to believe that I am Misa. Even if there is a slight possibility that this man knows something about the second Kira, I have to get it!
“That’s good. I’m sorry that I have been away for so long, but work has kept me busy,” Light answered.
“Um...Light…are you ok?” Mellow asked trying to pose normal.
“Yes, but I am tired and the work hours are not very manageable at the moment. I’m sorry I haven’t been home in a week. The Kira investigation is slowly making progress, but it drains me too much,” Light answered honestly. One good thing about Misa: you can complain to her as much as you wanted and she would keep listening.
Mellow felt his face grow red. This man is in the Kira investigation! Could he be in the SPK? No, I don’t think so; he is probably from the Japanese Task Force. On that night in the rain, he had said that his friend had died before he realized his feelings. Could his friend possibly have been L? And if so, he knows the second L! And Near believes the second L is Kira. I heard that from the conversation that I managed to probe before they took out my cameras and bugs. What luck!
“I’m sorry, Light. Is there anything I can do?” Mellow asked.
“No, I’m afraid not,” Light answered.
They ordered food and talked a little on subjects that Mellow had studied the night before. All the while, Mellow waited for the chance to ask Light if he had ever known L, but the question could never be brought up.
“Mellow!” Matt’s voice echoed in Mellow’s ear from a transceiver, “I have stalled her as long as possible! Get out of there!”
“Um… Light I have to go to the bathroom,” Mellow said as girly as possible.
“Fine,” Light sighed and rested his head on his arm.
Mellow walked into the back of the café and acted as though he was going to the bathroom, but just as he turned the corner, he hopped the back fence and into the next yard. There hidden among the trash was his motorcycle placed there the day before. Mellow got on and rode away.
Mellow returned to his apartment and lay in his girl clothes on the couch. He was exhausted from the getaway. Just then, Matt opened the door and sagged in.
‘You will not believe the things that Misa girl said about that Light guy. She loves him to death, and I had to hear the entire history of their love from the time she laid eyes on him to the time she stalked him home and asked him to be her boyfriend. It was really creepy. Did you get anything from you talk with Light?”
“Just that he is a Kira case member and that he was the same guy that I met a while ago. I think he has a good sense of right and wrong, so we really don’t have to worry about him. All that work didn’t even pay off a bit!”
“Well….” Matt said blushing, “I did get to see you in a dress.”

LOL thanks for reading my random story! XD

Mellow's bad Dream

This came as a request from one of my friends.

Mellow woke suddenly and violently. The silent night was shattered by his heavy breathing and rapid heartbeats. Beads of sweat were rolling down his face like snow in an avalanche. His whole body shook with mixes of fear and unreleased energy. The room was as it was when he went to sleep, but the Wammery dorm was eerily dark, and the moon cast shadows on the walls like ghosts begging to be released. Mellow sat up and pushed his black bed-sheets away. He was wearing a set of silk pajama bottoms that Matt had bought him. The only other thing that remained on him was his rosary beads worn more because of habit than anything.
“Matt,” Mellow breathed trying to regain his breath.
Across the room, Matt rolled over in his bed and coughed.
“Matt!” Mellow tried again.
Still the red-head seemed dead to the world. The only sounds coming from him were the steady coughs and slow movements. Man! Mellow thought. Matt really needs to stop smoking. It is ruining his lungs. Mellow pushed the rest of the bed-sheets away and stood up. With only moonlight coming from a half open window, Mellow proceeded to Matt’s bed.
As Mellow was about to shake Matt awake, something stopped him. There’s no reason to wake him. I can deal with it myself. Mellow thought relaxing. Mellow returned to his bed and began to remember the dream that had haunted him so.
It felt like the future had come in and opened itself to him, and yet everything was surreal. He had been lying on a metal table with his hands and feet bound by rope. Dark shapes moved around him and laughed menacingly and maliciously. A few helped him to his feet and then vanished back into the black void. Words were spoken, but Mellow could not hear them. Then as one of the shadows came into view, Mellow recognized the mustached man from his history class. This man was Hitler.
“Dam, what the hell do you want,” Mellow asked squirming against the hold of the ropes.
“Ah my little Mafia Prince, now that is no way to talk to me,” Hitler crooned calmly.
“Mafia? I’m not in the Mafia! I’m just a kid! Let me go dam it!” Mellow demanded.
“Now if you are going to keep talking to me like that, I’m going to have to punish your insolence,” Hitler smiled. Hitler snapped his fingers and the sounds of more fighting came into ear shot. Several of the shadows forced another figure that seemed to be bound as well forwards. Matt’s face appeared in the translucent light and stared at Mellow.
Mellow froze. He could take pain of all kinds, but Matt couldn’t. What did Hitler want? Why was he doing this?
“Mellow!” Matt yelped as a shadow squeezed him tighter. The light reflected of his goggles, but Mellow could see his eyes perfectly. They were in pain and had been suffering. Mellow forced himself to look away.
“Now you are going to answer a few questions my little Mafia Prince, or your friend here is going to pay dearly,” Hitler laughed.
Anger and rage went through Mellow like drugs. He fought against the ropes but to no avail. They only seemed to get tighter.
“Now don’t fight. That won’t do your friend any good,” Hitler laughed. A knife was drawn from the darkness and stabbed itself into Matt’s shoulder. Blood exploded and Matt’s cries ripped through Mellow. Matt fell to the floor, but shadows pulled him to his feet as blood spattered over his white jacket. “For every time you struggle or don’t answer my question, I will have your friend stabbed. So much blood loss would probably kill him in two or three stabs. I suggest you tell us what we need to know.”
“What do you need to know,” Mellow asked dropping his head. His blonde hair covered his face hiding the tears that were forming.
“Good boy, now first admit that you are in the Mafia,” Hitler smirked.
“But…” Mellow began, but as a knife was pulled to Matt’s throat Mellow lowered his head again, “Yes I am in the Mafia.”
“Good boy, now tell me who you are.”
“I’m Mellow.”
“Bad boy, give us your real name.” The sound of Matt stiffening meant a knife was being held to him.
“I’m Mellow,” Mellow began again. This time he heard the sound of a knife entering Matt.
“Mellow!” Matt seemed to beg, “Don’t give them your real name! Don’t give it to them!”
“Matt,” Mellow sobbed.
“Mellow, it’s going to be ok. Don’t give them your name,” Matt cried as another knife was put into him. This time, the knife went too far, and when it was pulled out, Matt bleed to death. He feel forward and hit the ground with a deep thud. Blood pooled pure red on the ground. Mellow watched in pure horror begging for them to release him.
Matt’s body was left unsullied on the floor with his goggles shining in the dim light.
“What a waste of a body,” Hitler sighed, “His death is on your hands Mellow. Now it’s your turn to face pain and humiliation.”
And from then on, Mellow was subject to excruciating pain and suffering. First there was the humiliation. Mellow was held down as Hitler shaved several swastikas into his hair and branded his neck with them. Shadows laughed as he was held to the table and stabbed lightly through his arms and legs. The pain never seemed to end. That was when Mellow looked down at his rosary beads. A cross held them together and it reminded Mellow of the story of Christ. Christ had been subject to pain and misery. Now it was Mellow’s turn to bear the burden. Tears were coming, but they were not because of the pain. They were the sadness of losing Matt. At the moment that Hitler was going to finish him, Mellow awoke from his dream.
Now in the silence of the room, Mellow sat very still. Even though I was in pain, all I cared about was Matt. He means more to me than I thought. Matt, let’s stay together forever.
Mellow got out of bed one more time and went over to Matt’s bed. The red-head remained asleep, and Mellow bent down and pushed Matt over. Groggily Matt opened his eyes and looked at Mellow.
“….What’s up Mellow? You ok?” Matt asked sleepily.
“I’m ok now, Matt, but I just wanted you to know that you mean the world to me. Night Matt,” Mellow said as he walked back to his bed and proceeded under the covers.
“Aright, night Mellow,” Matt hummed sleepily.

Matt

Ok! Here is a story on Matt-chan. Note: this is the same day as the day in the story “Light Dreams” I suggest you read that one before you read this because it makes references to that story. It also happens after Misa gives up her shinigami eyes and memories.

Matt stared out the window with a lighter in his left hand and a cigarette in the other. Neither of the hands made any movement to show that he was going to smoke. They remained at a shoulder’s distance from each other.
Rain was dousing the world and the night was fighting to push away daybreak. Matt pushed back his hair with the hand that held the cigarette and found his goggles were crunching his bangs. He pulled them down around his neck and looked at his reflection in the plexy-glass window. Mellow had insisted that all the windows be made of plexy-glass so that there was no chance of a bullet breaking the glass. It was one of the many safety precautions that Mellow had installed.
“Mellow, where are you?” Matt asked to the window, “You have been gone for nearly a full night. Where are you?”
The window did not reply, and Matt began to feel tears enter his eyes. Mellow had said that he would only be gone a few hours to buy chocolate. Where is he? It makes no sense. Mellow should be back by now, and it is raining. Mellow is like a cat about rain. Where is he? Did something happen to him?
The front door opened and slammed shut.
“Matt, what the hell are you doing?” Mellow asked.
“What do you mean?!” Matt asked angrily, “You said that the most you would be gone was a few hours. Do you have any idea what time it is?!”
Mellow thought for a moment and remembered that that guy Matsuda had claimed it to be more morning than night.
“Nope not a clue,” Mellow answered.
“It is five o’clock in the morning!”
“What are you? My mother?”
“Mellow…I was….was….worried something had happened to you,” Matt said trying to fight back his anger and fear.
“Matt, don’t be like that. I am here now, and I’m going to bed,” Mellow answered.
“Mellow, what if something had happened to you?” Matt asked.
“I have a cell phone. I would just call you.”
“You phone is always off! I called you three times! Mellow, I can’t take anymore.”
“What are you talking about? It’s not like we are married. Dam if we were. You would be one hell of a wife! Look, nothing happened! I am fine! I just needed to beat some sense into this other guy…and I needed time to think about things. I needed to reassure myself that I need to continue going after Kira.”
“L, Kira, Mellow that is all you think about! All you want! What about what I want! You are the reason I started smoking! I hate you!” Matt felt a sudden relief about getting the words out. He pulled his goggles above his eyes and grabbed the door handle.
“Matt! Dam it! Where are you going? Matt!” Mellow stormed.
Matt pulled open the door and was outside the apartment. Then he ran. Matt ran for a good three blocks until he stopped and panted.
“Dam, maybe I should stop smoking. It is so not good for my lungs,” Matt panted. He looked back, but there was no sign of Mellow. So he really doesn’t care. Fine, I’ll take care of myself.
Matt walked down a few streets and walked down to the underground train station. He bought a ticket from the machine and got on the Yamanote line heading south. A corner seat was open and Matt sat down. Seated next him was Misa Amane.
“Um….excuse me, but is there any reason you are sitting here? I kinda need my personal space,” Misa tried being kind. She was out looking for Light at the moment, and this man looked bad.
“Sorry,” Matt answered flatly, but as he bought his eyes up he saw the childish girl Mellow had asked him to investigate Misa Amane.
“Well I guess you don’t look to scary, you can sit here and chat with me!”
Matt thought for a second and then figured that since Misa was publicly known, he could use her name directly.
“You are Misa Amane yes?” He started.
“Oh! So you have heard of me! Yep I am MisaMisa! So I bet you know all about my acting career! Well I am not that popular yet, but I am getting there!”
“I would have thought an actress would have a car,” Matt snickered.
“Oh! So you are the bad type! Well I don’t like bad people!”
“Sorry,” Matt answered. He didn’t mean to take his anger out on her.
“Well as long as you really are sorry I will continue to talk to you! Anyway, you look a little down. What is wrong?”
“Why should I tell you?” Matt asked feeling that he was taking out his anger on her again.
“Well! I was just trying to be nice! Now are you going to tell me or not!” Misa asked.
“Fine, I guess it’s ok. My friend kicked me out of the apartment that we were sharing. He is so mean sometimes. I don’t know why I didn’t leave him from the start.”
“So he was cold hu? My boyfriend is that way too. He changes in mood so easily because of his work, but I have come to love that about him.”
“You have a boyfriend?” Matt asked. He had never seen a boyfriend around when he was watching her all that time.
“Ya we were living together for a while too, but then his work took him away from me for a long time. This was the first night that he had come home, but he went out for some reason early this morning. I was looking for him and decided just to go home. That is why I am here.”
“Does he love you?” Matt asked.
“I don’t know for sure, but I love him. He expresses himself sometimes, but most of the times I get a front that he put up because of work. I love him, and that is all that matters. Oh wow this is kinda of weird; I don’t even know your name.”
“My name is Matt,” Matt answered. She worried so much that she went looking for him. Misa must really love her boyfriend. Her boyfriend puts up a front. Sort of like…Mellow. Yes Mellow puts up a front because he is in the Mafia and needs to act tough, but he never lets down his guard. All that matters…is that I love him. That is what Misa said. All that matters is love. Do I love Mellow? He is rough on the outside, but I think I might. That would explain why we have so many fights. I worry about him…hum…I read somewhere that worry is actually a form of love. I thought it was a joke, but now I see. I love Mellow for who he is.
“Um…are you ok Matt? You were sort of drifting off. Are you ok?”
“Mellow,” Matt mumbled.
“Hey Matt! Are you ok?” Misa asked.
Matt sat up and realized that he had fallen over.
“Sorry, I must have somewhat dozed off. I didn’t sleep at all last night. Sorry.”
“You say sorry way too much. Now listen, act like a man! Go home and kick that baka in the butt! Tell him that it is you apartment too and see what he does!” Misa said enthusiastically.
“Thanks, you’ve helped in ways that you don’t even know. I hope your boyfriend is home. Sorry, but I have to get off at the next stop and go home. Tanks again.”
“No problem! Wow maybe I should be like one of those councilors on T.V. Maybe I could even beat Dr. Phil. Bye Matt!”
Matt got off at the next stop and took another train back north. The sun was already up by the time Matt was back in front of his apartment. He grabbed the door and pulled it open. Mellow was sleeping soundly on the couch. His hair was a mess and covered most of his face. Matt walked over to the couch and sat down near Mellow’s feet. Mellow opened one eye and looked at Matt.
“Are you ok now Matt?” Mellow asked not sounding groggy at all. He had been awake.
“Maybe.”
“Good because you worried me. I went out looking for you, but it was like you just disappeared. I’m glad you’re safe. Now come here.”
Mellow grabbed Matt’s jacket and pulled him down to his level one the couch. Matt lay down next to Mellow on the couch. Mellow put one hand over Matt’s waist, but Matt didn’t move. Matt was breathing slowly now, and Mellow felt his breathing slow also. Things began to grow dark as both went to sleep there on the couch.

Extra:
Misa pulled open the door to her and Light’s apartment. Then she pulled open the door to their bedroom. There at the window as the sun began to rise higher in the sky, Light stood. Le turned slowly and Misa noticed the plate of cinnamon rolls in his arms.
“I was wondering where you went off to Misa. I thought I would make breakfast this morning. Matsuda’s sandwiches are starting to bore me, so I thought this would be a change. Here Misa.”
Misa blushed and took one of the cinnamon rolls.
“Light.”
“Yes.”
“These taste horrible.”
