DC and Marvel: Must-Reads of Feb. 2013

Today, I post up lists of DC and Marvel Hero comic book issues/one-shots I recommend you should check out in this month, depending on your taste.

DC Releases of 2/06/2013

  • Action Comics (Vol. 2) No. 17: Superman battles to spare all creation on Earth in a milestone event for DC New 52.
  • Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan No. 4
  • Detective Comics (Vol. 2) No. 17: I the aftermath of "Death of the Family", Bruce Wayne/Batman encounters the Joker-worshipping psychotic group known as the "League of Smiles".
  • Earth 2 No. 9: Meet the Dr. Fate of the Post-Flashpoint Earth-2.
  • Green Arrow (Vol. 5) No. 17: While losing his fortune and company, Oliver Queen learns the disturbing truth of his father that may link to his time of being stranded on an island before the start of his superhero career. This comic book story isn't part of the continuity of Arrow T.V. series though.
  • Green Lantern (Vol. 5) No. 17: In part 1 of "Wrath of the First Lantern", Simon Baz meets his first superfoe Blackhand.
  • Justice League of America (Vol. 3) No. 1: In part one of "World's Most Dangerous", the world's most dangerous superheroes (Simon Baz/Green Lantern, Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Katana, Vibe, Katar Hol/Carter Hall/Hawkman, and Stargirl) form a new Justice League following the the "Throne of Atalntis" event.
  • Young Romance: A New 52 Valentine's Day Special: To celebrate Velentine's Day month, DC Comics presents this anthology of love stories featuring the superheroes of the DC New 52 Universe.

  • Ame-Comi Girls No. 5: Featuring manga-esque versions of Power Girl and Supergirl.
  • Batgirl (Vol. 4) No. 17: Barbera Gordon/Batgirl stuggles to cope with outcomes of the "Death of the Family" event.
  • Batman (Vol. 2) No. 17: In the final chapter of "Death of the Family", Bruce Wayne/Batman battles The Joker for the final time, and make sure to tune in to this issue as you'll see who in Batman's life survives the teror and who doesn't.
  • Batman and Robin (Vol. 2) No. 17: Bruce Wayne/Batman and Damian Al Ghul/Robin prepare to protect Gotham in the week before the town's 300th anniversary, only to end up encountering a battle against Gotham's worst people.
  • Before Watchmen: Rorschach No. 4
  • Green Lantern Corps (Vol. 3) No. 17: In another part of "Wrath of the First Lantern", the First Lantern is torn between siding with the Green Lantern corps and siding with the Guardians of Oa and the Third Army.
  • Katana No. 1: Katana begins her mission to restore the Outsides to former glory, but she must first avoid becoming possesed by the power of the SoulTaker.
  • Team 7 No. 5: The secrets of the first Cyborg Program revealed.

  • Before Watchmen: Comedian No. 6
  • DC Universe Presents No. 17: Outlaw member Roy Harper/Arsenal finds himself running for his life following an attempt to help Batman foe Killer Croc.
  • Green Lantern: New Guardians No. 17: In another part of "Wrath of the First Lantern", Kyle Rayner has fullfilled his mastering of the emotional spectrum.
  • Justice League (Vol. 2) No. 17: In the final chapter of "Throne of Atlantis", the Justice League learns of a secret that may affect not only the outcome of the war between the surface world and Atlantis, but also the future of the Justice League as a whole.
  • Nightwing (Vol. 3) No. 17: Dick Grayson questions his future as a superhero after suffering from ruins by The Joker in the "Death in the Family" event.

DC Releases of 2/27/2013

  • Aquaman (Vol. 7) No. 17: In the "Throne of Atlantis" epilogue story, Arthur Curry/Aquaman finds himself tortured by myths of Atlantis' past that that's somehow related to his own past.
  • Batman: The Dark Knight (Vol. 2) No. 17: The gruesome past of the Mad Hatter (according to the DCnU history) revealed.
  • Before Watchmen: Ozymandias No. 6
  • The Flash (Vol. 4) No. 17: Barry Allen's/The Flash's battle with Grodd enters its finale.
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us No. 2: In part 2 of the comic book prelude to the upcoming Injustice: Gods Among Us video game, the proposal of a new world order results in a series of batles where it's super-hero against super-hero.
  • Justice League Dark No. 17: Justice League Dark gets stranded in a world where magic is outlawed, and Wonder Woman's ally Colonel Steve Trevor is their hope of escaping.
  • Red Lanterns No. 17: In another part of "Wrath of the First Lantern", the Red Lanterns have their final attempt at vengeance against the Guardians of Oa.

Marvel Releases of 2/06/2013

  • Marvel's Iron Man 3 Prelude No. 2
  • The Superior Spider-Man No. 3: Otto Octavius, as Spider-Man, joins forces with J. Jonah Jameson, but must be careful with Peter Parker's ex-girlfriend Carlie Cooper as she's on a mission to learn the identity of the current Spider-Man.
  • Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man No. 20: Miles Morales, as Spider-Man, battles the new Venom of the Ultimate Marvel Universe, but what the new guy's connection to Miles' father?
  • Venom (Vol. 2) No. 31: Flash Thompson relocates to Philadelphia.

Marvel Releases of 2/13/2013

  • Alpha No. 1: Andy Maguire is back in the superhero business after the events in The Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) No. 694.
  • Avengers Arena No. 4: Avengers Academy Vs. Runaways.
  • Secret Avengers (Vol. 2) No. 1: Nick Fury, Jr. forms a new Avengers unit with Hawkeye, Black Widow, The Hulk, The Winter Soldier, Maria Hill and Phil Coulson.

  • Deadpool (Vol. 3) No. 5: It's a battle in space between Deadpool and Ronald Reagan.
  • Savage Wolverine No. 2: As Wolverine and Shanna venture into the depths of the Savage Island, another hero gets stranded as well.
