News:Three Spidey Trade paperbacks To Check Out in December 2011

This December, Marvel Comics will be releasing three Spide-Man trade paperbacks I think you should out during this Chrsitmas shoping season.

First, Marvel will be releasing the "best of" type compilation trade paperback "Spider-Man Through the Decades", set for release on Dec. 7. If you're new to reading "Spider-Man" comic books and want to look at how the mainstream Marvel Universe (Earth-616) version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man evolved as a superhero over the long course of the entire "Marvel Universe" franchise so far, I recommend this book, which gives you several example stories carefully selected by the staff at Marvel comics. This will collect the following:

  • "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 1 No. 4
  • "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 1 No. 50
  • "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 1 No. 122
  • "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 1 No. 195
  • "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 1 No. 243
  • "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 1 No. 290
  • "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 1 No. 363
  • "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 1 No. 415
  • "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 2 No. 2
  • "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 2 No. 40
  • "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 1 No. 546 (which is 47 issues after "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 2 No. 58, with the 59th vol. 2 issues of the series being "The Amazing Spider-Man" Vol. 1 No. 500)

For those of you into the old school Spidey comic adventures, Marvel will finally be brining out the trade paperback reprint of the entire short-lived comic book seires "Spider-Man: Chapter One". Though intended by John Bryne as a revised and modern retelling of the mainstream Peter Parker/Spider-Man's early adventures, this series was later re-designated by Marvel's staff as being set in Earth-98121, thereby recanonizing the classic Earth-616-set stories contradicted by this controversial series. This book will be released on Dec. 21.

For those into "Ultimate Spider-Man", Dec. 21 will also see the release of the "Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man: Death of Spider-Man Prelude" trade paperback, collecting "Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man" Vol. 1 No. 15 and 150-155. Those issues consist the story arc where the Peter Parker/Spider-Man of Earth-1610 enters after-school superhero training provided by the Ultimates (Earth-1610 counterpart of the Avengers of Earth-616) during what turns out to be a prelude to the events in the "The Death of Spider-Man" event. If you just started reading "Ultiamte Comics: Spider-Man" and missed any comic book issues whose events lead up to the introduction of Miles Morales (the current Spider-Man of Earth-1610), I suggest you read this before you go on to the trade paperback to collect collect the "Death of Spider-man" arc, whose release date isn't yet decided.
