It started out as a field trip. Just a day like any other day. However, who knew that this would be Earth's final day? Who knew that this day, a normal Friday would be the end of the human race? A group of people wonder off away from a tour, not knowing that this simple, seemingly innocent breaking of the rules would save their lives. They wonder back outside to see everything destroyed, ruined. The smell of smoke fills the air as a thick, brown fog covers the landscape. What had happened? This group of people is going to find out. They must go to a land that was hidden from humans for millions of years- and face the many challenges along the way. Encounters with grotesque, unimaginable things attempt to deter them from finding the one thing that would have a chance at making their world whole again. But if they don't, this will be the Earth's day... of darkness.

Heartkruez- Nadia Williams
Age: 16
Personality: Nadia basically is your normal everyday student. She goes to school, talks to friends, plays sports, and gets good grades. Despite this, she always was what people would call "different," if that word could even explain it. She never really got close to anyone, despite her being really friendly and talkative, she always kept her distance. She had been hurt a few times, but everyone knows that even after a few times of being hurt, you can never be the same again. After a while of just living life......she came across Koji. He was one the few people that you know you can trust without spending much time with. She is amused at Koji's attempts to impress her, that's one of the things she likes best about him. She is somewhat mean....but she's not a bully. It's more like "tough love." She gets annoyed when people are knowingly ignorant. She enjoys debating and she drinks a lot of Pepsi. She's a gamer and she likes painting her nails.

Mabon led me out of the throned court. It was cold within the halls. I looked around me as my students trailed behind me. The chief had sent some of his warriors behind Mabon to guard us to our new accommodations, which Mabon had told me was his home. I was nervous. Mabon had helped save us, but there was no real reason for me to trust him. However, the tattoos that now marked my skin told me that there was a connection to this man that I would never be able to break free of.
The hall that we were stumbling though was rich; beyond imagination. The walls were tall ivory colored stone. They were covered in magical looking designs. It looked like a palace. Trimmed in gold the hall went on for a great distance. It seemed an eternity to it's end. Each second seemed like hours. I was anxious and afraid. Mabon may have rescued us, but that didn't mean he was good. There had to be something this man was after.
We rounded a corner. The red carpeting beneath our feet was plush, our shoe prints could be seen all the way down the hall. A palace of luxuries, but I had a feeling it was going to be a palace of hell. Portraits hung over the walls down the second part of the hall. Every so often there was a vanity with a vase of wild flowers. It was beautiful, but even beauty has things to hide and fear.
We came out of large wooden double door. It looked oak. There was nothing fancy about it. It was simply huge. It had to be ten feet tall. In the center of each door was a golden oval extending down the wood. At the radius of the circle, there was a symbol I had never seen before. I looked at it curiously. Something about it was entrancing. The symbol it's self looked something like an S with some type of tail whipping off of it.
"It means freedom," Mabon said. He had caught me admiring the ornament. He didn't look me in the eyes. His eyes stayed focused, forever, above my head. Standing this close to him I noticed his height. He was a lot taller than me. There was at least a foot difference in our heights.
"Kind of ironic," one of the students snorted. I didn't care to see who. Their words were enough to send fear trembling though me.
I watched Mabon's eyes lighten and a smile spread over his lips. A small chuckle escaped his mouth. He didn't say a word, only laughed for an instant. He looked down at me for only a moment. His eyes were amused. It only lasted for a second, but in that moment I saw something I never expected. A beautiful chance of hope. Something in that smile told me to trust it. I wanted to hope, and I wanted to trust it. Something held me back though.
We left though the door. It led into a beautiful garden. It amazed me that the forest we had just been in could have something so beautiful. There were trees spaced out in a beautiful pattern, with roses veining up their trunks. A gravel path lead through the garden and to the edge of the forest. A large house was at it's folds. It was a bright home. It appeared welcoming, but for all I knew, it could have been a torture chamber. It was bricked with white shutters. An dream home.
Mabon and the guards ushered us into the door. Inside it was what looked like a regular reception hall. Slowly he led us down the hall and up a flight of stairs. There were doors lining the walls. It was a large house. Very large.
I watched as Mabon opened a door. He motioned me forward. I moved closer to it and looked inside. It was a bedroom. It looked like a college dorm room. Two sets of bunk beds setting against the walls, and a closet. A couple of the guards began to push two of my female students into the room.
I was about to protest when Mabon said, "They will need somewhere to sleep. They will be safe. You have my word."
I wanted to scream that I didn't trust him, but I remembered the smile. I couldn't say anything. I watched as room by room filled with my students until my students were all separated from me. With each room, the guards diminished. It was that moment that I was left alone with Mabon.
Mabon led me further down the hall and opened another door. There was one large door. He opened the door and led me inside. There was a large bed in the corner of the room. It was covered with a violet down blanket. Everything was neat, and there were rich and elaborate decorations all over the room. An ivory satin canopy was hanging over the bed.
"I can sleep with my students," I said when I took in the surroundings.
"You'll be staying in this room. I've already marked you. It is tradition to share a bed." His face was cold. There was no emotion anywhere around him. It had all scurried to me, and it was in the form of panic.
"I refuse to share a bed with you!" I shouted.
"Sharing a bed does not mean sharing your body." He rolled his eyes at me.
He left the room for a moment and returned with a gown. It was a sleeping gown. He left again while I changed. It didn't take long. However, it was during this time that I got a good look at my tattoos. They were weaving patters that looked like a lactating wave of thorns and every so often a swirly line that sort of reminded me of the freedom symbol. It went up my arms and around my collar bone.It also branched off onto my back and folded over my shoulders like wings. It was startling, but beautiful all in one.
When he returned he was wearing what resembled flannel sleeping pajama bottoms. That was all. His body was beautiful. His bare chest was sculpted and toned. His tattoos matched those on my body. He only glanced at me as he moved to the bed, climbed in and rolled over. I DID NOT want to get in that bed.
"Why do I need to sleep?" I asked, still standing across the room.
"You just had a horrible ordeal. You need your rest. Just go to sleep." He sounded tired. I was beginning to think it was him in need of the rest, and not me. I decided that was the case when I heard him begin to softly snore. I pulled the covers up at the foot of the bed and climbed in.
It didn't take long, but as soon as the stillness of the room sank in I found myself listening to his gentle breathing. Before long I had drifted into my own slumber.
While was craddling myself from all the horrors of this forest,I relized that this forest wasn't as bad as everyone had made it. A little while ago, even though we've.... I....'ve been in this forest for a couple hours it seemed more and more like home every second. The air seemed natural, it wasn't smelly at all. The times .... I've been here, it seems like it reminds me of something I've forgotton, something important...
For a while now, even before we entered this forest, it always felt like I was forgetting something. I'm still not sure what it is, but this forest has something to do with it. The sun, the moon....the moon...
The moon was out.
Like that day long ago...
I remember....
I remember a day with a forest filled with mist, long sapphire hair, arms shooting away arrows filled with flames... at a gaint centipede.... no wonder why the centipedes are mad, they were driven mad.... Eyes filled with flames that day, they stood stern, none of them flinching.... the arrows, the blood, I didn't want to be there..... that day..... or was it because it was suppose to be wrong that I didn't want to be there... I think.... maybe..... that maybe I really wanted to be there, but I was taught that it was wrong. I found it exciting.Even though I wanted to be there, I couldn't. I was tooken somewhere... somewhere far away..... from... from home.
Home?
That word in all the places I've been, this felt the most like home...even though... even though I've never benn here before... have I? I might've been here before... that would explain a lot than, supposely. I didn't want to think about it, not at all. I don't know why, but my head blocked it out, all of it out. There was no way for it to get in, back in, but it fopund a way, it slipped through the doors of my mind.
I was suppose to be married. Be married to someone I loved... but that never happend.... how could that have happend? I'm only 14 now... so how was I suppose to be married by the age of 5? Was that legal? I guess in what world your in... which home world your truly in... it was decided.
It was decided that the age of 14 I was to be married. I was taken away though, away from my home, but my mother and father never told me, about any of this... did they know? Did they know what was going to happen today? I wonder why than. Why didn't they tell me? Maybe because they didn't know. They didn't know I would wonder into the forest, or did they? They never told me what had happend to my memories, they only told me I was in an accident by a car and got amneisa, but that wasn't true. Tge truth is is that they locked away my memories. Memories aren't suppose to be burried, but they did it, they burried them, they burried them hoping they would never come up. When was I suppose to be married? And to whom? I couldn't remember all the details, but I am in hope that I will remember them. All of them. So my hope now is to find the place that I, that I feel is home.
General Mabon led us down a path in the center of the forest. It wasn't really trodden out path, but it was like the trees and life around us had fenced us into a natural path. There were no signs of wildlife earlier. I could hear birds though. Just small bit of singing, and my nerves were soothed the slightest bit. I was still so nervous. So, scared, but I was a little more calm.
I watched these strange sapphire haired people lead me to a world of unknowns. I didn't know what was going on. I kept staring at their beautiful faces. Each one had a golden tattoo on them. All except Mabon. His face was smooth and beautiful, but over his right eye there was a scar that crossed from his brow to his cheek. I had to keep my wits about me though, I didn't have time to admire his beauty.
His eyes met mine for an instant, then he stopped in the middle of the path. The little soldiers following him halted upon his sudden lack of movement. They all looked to him for instructions. The woman, Dina, stared at him for a moment with an almost concerned expression.
Mabon turned around and walked towards me curiously. He took me by the arm and looked me dead in the eye. I stared into the depths of his mysteries. My knees felt weak. I wanted to collapse into this mans arms. Damn it! He is the enemy! How dare he have such power over me!!? How could he have such power over me?
"Take the others on," he said suddenly. His eyes never left mine, but I felt a rushing sensation of excitement and fear in that moment.
I felt my eyes widen in surprise. I looked to Dina. Her eyes were on me, an obvious glare was tearing holes in me. If looks could kill, I would have been laying on the ground in millions of pieces in that second. She turned and took the lead and began to lead my students away.
"Make sure to blindfold them!" He shouted over his shoulder to Dina. She stopped for only a second, but led them on. My fear peaked. I had been trying to memorize the path. I had promised the students that I was going to get them out. How was I to do that if I couldn't see the path.
"What are you doing?" I shouted to Mabon. "I'm their guardian, you can't separate us!" I struggled against his grip. "You cant take me away from my students I have to watch over them!"
"You'll join them soon enough." He watched them as they each turned and looked at me with worry in their eyes. They were terrified. He waited for them to disappear from our site before he released me. I was weak. I fell to my knees and clasped my hands over my face.
"If you are going to kill us, why don't you stop toying with us and get it over with!?" I shouted. I was enraged. He was going to force me to break my promise. I hated him. I hated this man more than anything in the world. Damn him!
"You shouldn't be in such a rush to die." He said as he looked down at me.
"The what are we supposed to think? Are you going to let us go home?" Tears flooded my eyes.
He knelt down in front of me. He just watched me for a moment.
"Do you wish to save those children?" He asked me.
I looked up at him. Slightly puzzled. What on earth was this man talking about? I had no idea what game he was playing at, but if this was a joke, I was going to kill him, or try at it anyways.
"Do you want to save those kids or not?!!" He shouted at me.
"Save them?" I was still confused.
"When we take them back to the village my father will have them killed! He can't issue the order if I'm not there, because I'm the heir! Make up your mind now if you really wish to save those kids or not! If you do, you must be willing to give up everything for them! If not, they you and those students are damned to death!" He was angry. I didn't understand why he was trying to help me.
"How am I supposed to save them?" I asked. I turned my face to the ground. I had made a promise. I was going to keep it. I was going to make sure those kids stayed alive if it was the last thing I did.
"You must allow me to mark you." His voice became somber.
"Mark me?" I asked.
"The only way to save those kids of yours right now is to mark you. Are you willing to let me mark you?"
"What is marking, and how do I know you're not lying to me?" I began shouting at him again.
"Marking is the process in which my people choose a mate." His voice was cold and distant. I looked up into his eyes in that instant. He looked heartless. "You will belong to me until the end of your days."
I wanted to cry. I wanted to scream no. This wasn't fair. I wanted to run away and hide. None of those choices saved my students, though. Something in his eyes told me that he was telling me the truth. I don't know why I decided to trust him, but I did.
"What do I have to do?" I asked.
He leaned in towards me. I could see it in his eyes that what he was about to do repulsed him. I was terrified. I had no idea what he was doing or even how it would help, I just knew that it would.
His lips touched my forehead. It tingled. I felt his lips quiver against my skin. A chill of something I hadn't expected ran through me. Excitement. I heard him make small whispers onto my skin. A breeze lifted into the air, it felt like I was spinning a personal whirlwind. He moved his lips to my right palm, still whispering onto my skin, continuing this trend over onto my left palm. Then he rested his lips on my heart. He said one word. One simple word and my body felt as though it were filled with flames. "SUN."
My entire body burned in a feeling of pure bliss, more powerful than anything I had ever felt before. I fainted.
When I woke up I was being carried through a door. I was too drowsy too look around and see what was going on. I was dizzy. Still spinning on the high of bliss. Mabon carried me through the door into a great hall filled with riches. My students were tied hand and foot in front of a large thrown.
"Good, now that Ryoko has decided to grace us with his presence, we may commence the execution." A large man with balding sapphire hair set in the thrown. His body was massive, but he wore only golden cape. On his forehead I could see a golden tattoo. He was handsome, but old age was obvious. He had wrinkle upon wrinkle.
"Father, before you decide to behead all these kids, I'd like to introduce you to my mate." Mabon's voice was still cold, but it had a sly edge to it.
"I don't have time for your silly jokes Ryoko," the old man growled.
"It is no joke." He laughed haughtily. "Take a look at her face and arms." He set me down on the ground. As he did I glanced over the skin of my arms. They were covered in a golden patterned tattoo. Mabon lifted his sleeve to reveal the same markings. A golden weave identical to that on my arms. A complex weave that created a complex beautiful glow over my pale skin.
"What have you done?" The old man shouted, standing up from his thrown, and glaring in my direction.
I glanced at my students, all of their eyes were wide with surprise and fear. I tried to smile at them a little. I guess I failed. They all started.
"It is tradition, that the mate coming into the royal family receive a gift from the reigning chief, anything that she desires." Mabon spoke with clarity and precision. He was going to let me save all my students!
The old man grunted. "So be it. What is it that the daughter of the Sun wishes of the thrown?"
Mabon nudged me forward. I looked at him curiously, but his eyes seemed to comfort me.
"I want all my students returned to me." I said as clearly and powerfully as I could. I was going to be able to keep my promise. Mabon had made a way for me to keep my promise. Maybe he wasn't a bad guy.
"Release all the children into the her care. Let me make something clear to you, daughter of the Sun. These children will be closely monitored and will be under your supervision. If they step out of line, I will have them destroyed, do you understand?" He shouted at me. The fierceness of his voice was overpowering.
I looked at my students. When I had become a teacher I made a vow to do all I could to protect them. I had made a sworn oath that their lives came before mine. I was going to fulfill that. "I understand," was all I could reply. They come first. I would protect these students with my life.
I heard the scream before I saw the figure come out of the forest. Covered in a cloak of darkness the stench was drawing near me. It hadn't been long since my students had wandered into the forest, and now the camp seemed to be covered in a strange mist and those of us left were surrounded by a group of-- I don't know what they were, but as they were coming closer. The stench became overpowering as their movements brought them near. It was so strong my head began to spin with dizziness.
One of the figures stepped out of the mist. I took to my feet and darted in front of my students. A dirty brown cloak covered the face of the figure. It walked up straight, but something inside of me told me it wasn't human.
"Who are you?" I shouted at the figures. I was completely terrified. All my students, including the ones inside the forest were in danger. I could feel it. This was not a welcoming party.
"You people have entered the Forest of Deaths. We are the people of this forest. It is death for all who enter this forest." The figure removed the cloak from his face as he spoke with his deep and husky voice. It was in that moment that all my fears were realized.
The face revealed to me was human, but not human. Something about it definitely said male, though he was beautiful. The skin was of a golden tone and his face was covered in scars. His hair was a strange sapphire color, but looked soft tied back into a low ponytail. It swam over his shoulder and across his chest. It had to be down to his waist. For an instant I felt the urge to run my fingers through it, but I shook it off and took in the rest of the figure in front of me. His eyes were cold, distant, and a dark shade of golden amber. Hidden beneath the unexpected beauty though, was something terrifying. My whole body was trembling just looking at him.
"We didn't mean to come here!" One of my students shouted. "We don't want to be here. I just want to go home! We all do! Just let us go home!! PLEASE, let us go home!!"
The man looked over my shoulder to the students then back to me. I was terrified, but hearing my student beg for our lives had made me angry. There was some kind of cruel twist of fate going on around here. We had been thrown into a living hell. I know what the man saw when he looked at me. I know what my face was showing. Hatred. Anger. Defiance. He saw nothing but strong emotions of rebellion.
"We were sent here to scout out the intruders, not to punish you," the man said. His voice still distant and dark, but something about it seemed as though he was trying to comfort us.
"Dina!" He shouted suddenly. Another figure stepped forward, but he simply bowed. "Lower the barrier. These people are not our enemy."
The figure that had stepped forward lifted its head, and removed their cloak as well. Covered beneath the dirty brown robe was a Sapphire haired woman. Her face was thin and with the same pale golden bronze covering her skin as the other person. She had a golden stitched lace of thorns tattooed onto her forehead. I watched the gold shimmer as the stink that had filled the air suddenly began to fade.
I looked back to the man. My eyes filled with wonder as he stared at my students and myself. We must have looked completely helpless and pitiful in his eyes. Any resistance to these people would have been futile. I knew it before even trying.
"I am General Ryoko Mabon," he said in a voice of authority. He bowed slightly and made advancements towards us. I backed up, pushing my students behind me to take steps back as well.
"What are you planning on doing with us?" I asked, my voice sounded confident, but scared. It was in that moment that I realized that my life was in this man’s hands.
He looked deep into my eyes for a moment. My knees felt weak in his gaze. I shivered slightly, something I hadn't expected to feel from someone's stare. It was like his eyes were playing touching me. My skin felt feverish in his eyes. I adverted my eyes to the woman he had called Dina. She was watching the man.
"I'm going to take you back to the village and have my father, Chief Manton decide what to do with you," he answered me.
"Are you going to let us leave this forest?" I returned my eyes to his again.
He looked at me for a moment, then turned away and began walking away. He paused for a moment and looked back over his shoulder and said, "All who enter this forest never return it."
The figures surrounding us, his soldiers, encircled us. Herding us like sheep we were all led into the forest. The forest of death, he had called it, but I had a feeling that something worse than death was waiting for us within the village.
"We are never going to be able to go home again," one of the students cried, leaning onto me. I stroked their hair. She was the one who had questioned General Mabon a moment ago. She was so scared. They all were. I could see it plainly in each of their faces.
"I'll find a way to get you all home. Someway, I will get you all home. I promise." I looked straight ahead, glaring into the back of the man who was leading us into more mysteries. I was going to find a way out of here, even if it was the last thing I did.
"CRACK!"
I winced as I stepped on a small twig.
"Whoopsie..."
I laughed, trying but failing to shrug off that eerie feeling that I, and everyone else had. Everyone showed their fear on their faces. The silence was getting to us all and....what the heck was that stench? It was bad enough trying to walk through a silent forest, but the stench was simply unbearable.
I froze for a minute as the twig's cracking noise echoed throughout the forest. No caws...no sudden flutter of wings...
"Okay this is getting weird." I stated as I continued walking.
"Heh, no kidding." Socon said under his breath.
I looked at the ground, searching for any clue of someone...that's when it happened...
The entire forest was lit up by a blinding light and we were shook. I felt and saw the world spinning around me. I heard a scream...perhaps my own....perhaps someone elses and then everything went black.
