The End

He ignored the blood, and the bodies that lay stretched out as far as the eye could see inside the burning city. His gaze settled on a single form, one of the few that were still alive. Her blond hair was matted with blood and flesh that she didn’t have the strength to shake off. As he knelt down his long coat hung covering her legs.

“My master.” He lifted Integra’s body up her eyes fluttered, she looked up at him.

“Is it done?” She managed to whisper. The apocalyptic scenery didn’t seem to faze her as he walked over the bodies of fallen comrades.

“It is…...all but one.”

“Walter?”

“Yes…...my master.” He set her down out of the bloody mess, in a place that still had fresh grass under a light post in central square. A single tear fell down her cheek mingling with the blood. He didn’t think her weak for shedding a tear for a friend that had been destroyed by becoming the very thing he'd fought all his life.

“I remember when I first met you.… [cough, cough]…I was so young. ” Her hoarse words barley carried on the wind that stank of rotting flesh.

“You are still young…..my master.” His voice was uncommonly gentle, his red eyes peering at her while his face was hidden in darkness.

“Alucard.. [Cough….cough]” Blood dripped down her chin as she gasped for breath. “You have served my family well.”

“It has been my honor… master.”

She smiled faintly. “I am forever grateful, my…fr..” Her last word died with her. He bowed his head, the silence of death around him. He pushed a strand of hair from her face.

“Foolish woman...…for thinking a vampire would care to know she thought of him so highly.“ A drop of blood fell onto his glove, he looked up regarding the shadowy figure atop a lamppost. “Such wonderful creatures humans…..don’t you think.... Walter?” The streaks of blood that marked his cheeks, faded absorbing back into him.

“Humanity is overrated.” The cold voice of the creature didn't fool Alucard. The souless animal before him remembered the truth. That he cared for her perhaps more than his malevolent mind would admit. “Come Alucard, let us finish it.”

Alucard smiled wildly, the insanity in his eyes was of a devil in the midst of hell. His hair grew white his body’s tendrils set Integra’s arms in a cross and left her body untouched. Her soul would lift to heaven and he would finish his last mission under the leash of a human

“Yes! Let us bring the fires of Hell to earth and let God smite us down for it!” He roared... and just as he struck out against Walter, his old friend and companion... he heard him whisper.

“Amen.”
