I gasped for air and clutched my bleeding stomach as my crimson red blood dripped onto the pavement. I bit my lip to stop myself from screaming in pain and forced myself to lift my head off the concrete.
Asher, where are you? I wanted to say. But I couldn't. I just wanted to see my bestfriend.
See him before the inevitable happened. Through the sea of blood I spotted a shining lock of blonde hair. Definately Asher.
I dug my nails into the street and dragged my weakened body to where Asher was.
Damn, I thought. How did it end up like this? Today was happy. Everyone was happy. Then suddenly we all get fucking shot.
Asher was only a couple feet away from me now, but I felt as if he were millions of miles away. I wondered if my legs were being torn up by the rough ground beneath me, or if the other victims of the shooting were crying out in agony. All I could concentrate on were the intense poundings of my heart, the pain that was surely going to drive me insane until I died, and the lock of blonde hair stained with blood that belonged to Asher.
I gasped my way to him until finally my head was barely hovering over his body. I was gasping for air that seemed so hard to get now. I tried to steady my breathing before I spoke, but all I could do was gasp for air and splurt out blood with every exhale.
Caressing Asher's face, I buried my head into his shoulder.
"Bl...Bl...Blair?" he choked out.
I lifted my head to look at his face. His green eyes seemed to have lost their emotions. They were dead. Just like what the owner would be. Just like I would be.
"Y.....eah," I said, smiling. The person on his mind during his last minutes was me. That made me happy enough to forget the throbbing pain in my stomach for a second.
"Damn," he said. "S-some fu.....cking birth.....day tod....ay is, huh?" He tried to laugh, but all that came out was more blood.
"I swear....I'll ma....ke it up....to y-you....in....Hell"
"You.....m-mean Heaven. I.... I've b....een a g-goo.....good p...erson"
"I....haven't"
"I've....b...een...pray.....ing....f-for.....y-you.....y....you know...."
I choked out a laugh. I felt my shallow breath getting sharper, and I heard Asher's fading.
"H....h...hey, you.....st...still.....got.....th....that.....iPo....d...I....got....y-you.....for.....your......16th......bi....birth.....day?" I gasped.
"Y...yeah...lef..t.... pock......et....."
I reached down and got them from his pocket. I brought it up to my face and scrolled through the songs until I found "Daylight" by Matt and Kim. I plugged a headphone in his left ear and the other in my right and pressed play. I burried my head into Asher's shoulder again for comfort.
Daylight.....how ironic it was that on this day, where there is so much blood, that nature is still calm.
I listened to the song until the last time the chorus was sung. Then I started to sing along.
"......hitch...hike....to Maine........somday I'll see......ithout these ...frames......daylight I don't......ick ..... my phone.....cus ... in the...daylight......any...where feels like....home..."
The song ended. And at that moment, I felt it was okay to die.
"Anywhere....feels....like....home" I whispered as I closed my eyes for the last time. "Like....home....."

I know it's short as hell. But this story just felt right. Hope you enjoy (:
