Susan G. Komen

The Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure is in Dallas this Saturday. Just in case you didn’t know, Susan G. Komen For The Cure is a foundation that raises money for a cure for breast cancer. October is national breast cancer awareness month.

Every 30 minutes a woman passes away from breast cancer, men can get breast cancer, white women have the highest reported incident rate but black women have the highest mortality rate; when Asian women migrate to the U.S., their risk of developing breast cancer increases
up to six-fold and in 2005 122 out of every 100,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer.

My Great Aunt was diagnosed almost two years ago. The cancer is in remission now, but most deaths occur within the first five years. She went through chemo and all her beautiful blond hair fell out! When it grew back it came in a silky soft silver. Half the family shaved their heads for her, my mom wouldn’t let me- but I did cut it as short as she would let me.
