20th Century Boys 2: The Last Hope

The story continues, it was 15 years later, after the explosion Tomodachi / Friend made the world believe that it was Kenji that made this all happen, a terrorrist that started the Bloody New Year. Kanna Endo (Airi Taira) Kenji's niece is bent into clearing his uncle's name and gaining the trust of street gangs. Kanna is called the Chosen One by Tomodachi's followers, not only because of her parents (trying to avoid spoilers ^_^) but because she has ESP.

This is starting to confuse me. Who is Friend? and why is he doing this? I guess I should start reading the manga. ^_^

Me wants to watch the 3rd movie!!! TT_TT

The movie is a live adaptation of the manga by Naoki Urusawa and directed by Yukihiko Tsutumi. This movie covers volume 6-15 of the manga volumes.

20th Century Boys 1: The Beginning of the End

Kenji Endo (played by Toshiaki Karasawa) is a convenient store owner that was a former rock guitarist. When he was a child he wrote a story with his friends and called it the Book of Prophecy. During his elementary school reunion he met with his old friends and started to talk about a cult and various disappearances. News of terrorism also occurs worldwide. A symbol that they made as kids was seen and they are thinking that one of them is doing this. The organization that uses this symbol frequently wears a mask and calls himself “Tomodachi” (Japanese word for Friend). He claims that Kenji’s sister’s daughter is his child and wanted the girl calling her the chosen one.

I find this movie really interesting. This movie came to me highly recommended by a friend. Seeing the trailer and reading some articles about it definitely excited me. The idea of a wild imagining of a kid coming true is very intriguing. Definitely something to watch from beginning to end!

Need to watch the next one! Ja~!

The movie is a live adaptation of the manga by Naoki Urusawa and directed by Yukihiko Tsutumi. This movie covers volumes 1-5 of the manga series.

下弦の月

Mizuki Mochizuki is a high school student that one day meets a man by the name Adam. In the two weeks they are together, she falls in love with him, and the day he is to leave, she decides to follow him. Bringing her passport and a bag, she crosses one of Shibuya's many streets, on a red light, to follow after him. Only, when her ex-boyfriend calls out her name, she turns around, in the middle of the street, to see him running after her. While standing there, she is hit by a car.

Some time later, a girl named Hotaru, who has lost her cat, mistakes a stray as her own. The cat wanders into an abandoned home, and she squeezes through the bars to follow after the cat. When realizing that the cat isn't hers, she decides to leave, but is drawn in by a beautiful melody. She makes her way to where the sound is coming from, and discovers a girl playing a piano. After telling her friends about the girl, they all leave to check out the scene. When they go there, they cannot see the girl, but knows she is real when Hotaru hands her a notebook, and she takes it from Hotaru's hands. They have no idea who this girl is, but they are determined to find out just who she is and why she is there. The rest of the story follows their discoveries of the ghost they call Eve. Chiaki Kuriyama is always a great actress, its so refreshing to see her in a different role since most of the movies I’ve seen of her she’s a bit on the dark side. And also I find her looks here different too since most of the times she wears her hair straight and long. Hyde though he only have a few appearances is still good, he played his part well.

This is probably one of the saddest and romantic stories I’ve seen. A story of love beyond death, so romantic. I’m actually wishing that they would be finally together after all those time but I guess it made it more romantic when they let go and promise to be together afterwards. *sigh* I’m still a girl after all I fall for such to stories... (personal stuff, long story)

also entitled as "Last Quarter" based from the manga written by Ai Yazawa

Strange Circus

School principal Ozawa Gozo abused his daughter, Mitsuko, after she sees her parents having intercourse. Her mother Sayuri witnesses the abuse. Gozo now abused both of them as he pleases, while his family is undermined by incest, suicide and murder... such is the erotic novel wheel-bound novelist Taeko sets on to write. She is assisted by Yuji, a young man who is actually on a mission to uncover the reality of this story, of Taeko's past, and of the locked room in her apartment. But the reality and truth beneath the Grand Guignol nightmares Taeko creates might be too much to bear. (from Wikipedia)

The story is already twisted and the way this story is told it made the story even more twisted. A child abused by both parents tells her story seen though her eyes. She tells her story though her innocent eyes. The setting was in a circus, it made the movie look like a dream but with the story it actually it looks more of a nightmare. The use of whimsical music usually heard in circus made this quite attractive as if it is hypnotizing the audience into watching the film.

I can’t help but see something else than what is shown. Like the house, I don’t see it as this luxurious house but a normal Japanese house. I especially like the ending and how it turned out. It is definitely a twist to watch for.

Suicide Circle

A group of high school students from different school jumped in front of a moving train that eventually killed them all. In the platform a white sports bad in found, inside is a pieces of skin from different people stitched together. The police investigates every suicide committed finding their connection. Was it a cult or an inner working of a manipulative person?

This has got to be the weirdest movie I have ever seen. I was watching it and I’m just completely confused. My one big question was why were those people doing it? Who told them to do that? And what is with those questions? Though I must admit it kinda make sense, those questions (are you connected to yourself. I wonder though did everyone got to that point by that method? But I guess not cause some of the victims weren’t like that.

As for how gruesome it was, oh yeah it is, very! So much blood but I have to point out how fake the blood was. Some even said that it looked like salad dressing cause it looked kinda orange than red. Let me say one fact blood actually have two colors bright red (oxygenated) at dark red (deoxygenated)...

This is the kind of movie that you HAVE to watch twice, cause it’s really confusing. There is a second movie called Noriko’s Dinner Table, I haven’t watched it yet but I do hope this answers my questions.

But I must say this movie is giving me new ideas, nope not suicide! Suicide is a stupid ending to a story.
