It was already very late at night and I was sitting outside. The cold got onto me, seeing that I shivered non-stop. I sighed and wrapped my good ol' yellow scarf around me, looking like a cocoon.
"Hey missy..."
I averted my eyes to the tent to see Linku's head popping out of it with panda eyes. "Are you sure you don't want to sleep here? It's warm..." I wasn't falling for that trick and turned around with a huff.
"I don't want to sleep in a tent with someone like you. I rather sleep with a stinkin' zombie." I retorted.
"Suits yourself. I got some food too. Are you really sure you don't want to sleep here?" He said.
His smirk was burning a hole in my back. "Yes, I'm sure, sir Linku. So why don't you go to sleep while I stay here." I ended.
"Okay. Hope you won't get eaten."
He said as he went back into his tent while an anime vein popped on my forehead. "It's not that I almost lost to a zombie today that I will get eaten by one you know!"
"I can't hear you~~!"
He said from the tent, a little too happy. He pisses me off... He really pisses me off.. I started to smile like a maniac.
A few hours past after that. I was already starting to get sleepy but I managed to slap myself to keep awake, which only resulted to pain. I shook my head and looked at dark sky.
I heard that there's only a full moon here, and it doesn't change. Sounds pretty romantic but creepy at the same time.
I had enough of waiting and rose up. I looked at the tent, where Linku was sleeping peacefully.
He probably wouldn't mind if I left. Hell, I wouldn't even care if he DID.
I dashed forward, only to collide against Epona. Darn. I forgot she was here. I rubbed the back of my head as I pouted a bit. It's a good thing she didn't wake up. Otherwise I would be trampled.
I took another glance at the tent, hoping Linku wouldn't come after me. He didn't. Okay, that's good.
I was walking around for couple of minutes after that. something familiar caught my attention.
It was shining in the moonlight. I bend down my knees and took a closer look. It was a pendant with an azure diamond in the center. It was so familiar. My eyes widened. This belonged to brother..! It's his pendant!
I snatched the pendant from the ground while my bangs covered my eyes. A lone tear made its way down my cheek.
"Just you wait, I'll find you... I promise.. Youre still alive... I know it.."
Yes it wasn't much but one zombie was better than none. I still have no idea why the old man hired her if she didn't know a single thing about how to kill zombies. She was almost over taken by a single zombie and I had to rescue her! I knew this was gonna be a tough mission now that I had an almost defenseless girl to protect. I made sure she called mew Sir Linku because I was recently knighted and I wanted to flaunt the title.
"So Farah? What is it that you do or what is your job?" She had a somewhat sour look on her face as if she disliked me and she answered in a sharp tone "I'm an assassin and how dare you treat me like I was a child! I can defend myself thank you! I had everything under control!" I merely smirked and had Epona lay down and rest while I gave her some of my water. "well excuse "Miss Assassin" I did not mean to undermine your skills! I'm sure the "undead" zombie would have eventually bled to death from the dagger in its eye!" I said to her with heavy sarcasm. She bawled up her fist as if she was about to hit me and I just stood there smiling then she gave an aggravated grunt and stomped off to retrieve her dagger from the zombie's head.
While she was cleaning off her dagger I ran at the zombie head and kicked it with all my might as it soared out of sight. She held her dagger out at me because the sudden movement surprised. She looked at me for a moment and then in the direction the head had flown off too. "What the hell was that?!" She said looking at me like I was some kind of freak show. "Its a...well...its a game of mine. Killing zombies isn't exactly fun and its not exactly cheerful so I punt the occasional zombie head to give myself a chuckle. My record right now is 458 yards. Would you like to try?" I took out a zombie head from one of my previous hunts and threw it on the ground and she looked at it in disgust. "Ew! You think I'm gonna kick that?!" "Punt." I corrected her. "Whatever! It's still gross!"
I shrugged and walked off to set up camp because night was coming soon and I needed a camp to plan out the journey ahead of me but before I began I turned to her. "How do you expect to survive out here if you don't even have the guts to kick a lifeless zombie head!" I laughed and she glared at me. It was almost as frighting as when I was staring down Dracula himself in my greenhorn days. I began pitching the tent when I heard a sudden rush of feet and a loud thump and I looked up just in time to see the zombie head fly over me and land on the other side of Epona. I looked at her and she had a smug look on her face as if she just proved me wrong. "Only 12 yards..." I said as I looked at her and her smile began to fade. "What an amateur!"
I found myself walking on a messy path surrounded by skulls. I shivered once I stepped on one. I calmed myself down and continued to walk. That cloaked person said I had to meet a Paladin here. I wonder where he is? "Hey mister Paladin! Where are you?!" I yelled out impatiently. I sighed deeply and placed my hand on my hip. I decided to take a look around until the Paladin comes.
So these are the Forsaken Lands? Not much to see around here, outside the skulls. I sighed again, getting impatient even more. In an instant, a hand came through the ground and grabbed my ankle. "What the--?!" I quickly looked at the ground and saw a zombie head from the ground going up. I started to kick his head with my other foot. "Let me go, dastard!!"
I yelled as I kept kicking him. It didn't affect the zombie at all. He rose up from the ground as he released his grip on me. I took a hold of my knife and stabbed him in the eye. "Die you freak!" I took a few steps away from the zombie, seeing that it didn't collapse or something like that. I took another step back, but I tripped and landed on my backside. I sweatdropped, seeing that I saw my knife still sticking out that zombie's eye. oww, what to do..
"You're not supossed to stab 'em in the eye, you're supossed to dicapetate them!"
I turned around as a Paladin made it's way to me at full speed. I gulped and dashed away as the Paladin took a hold of his sword, about to slay the zombie. The zombie's head rolled over to my feet. I stared at it in disgust when I saw purple blood spots on my shoes."That's how you do it!" The Paladin stated, a little bit cocky. "Good girl.." He said as he started petting his horse while she neighed in softly in response. "Y-You didn't had to save me! I had everything under control!" I exclaimed as I snatched my knife out of the zombie's eye. "Yeah, sure."
He grinned playfully as he jumped off his mare. "You're name is Farah, correct?" He spoke up. I nodded softly in response. "I'm Linku. But it's Sir Linku to you." Linku smiled. What the heck? I just met the guy and he's already irritating me! I examined Linku with a raised eyebrow. He had a vibrant red ribbon tied onto his forehead and long redish hair, tied into a ponytail. He also has a scar on his right eye. I pouted in an instant. "Oh yeah, This is my mare, Epona." He piped up as he placed his hand onto Epona's head. She's so cute. I wanted to pet her, but then she neighed loud. I quickly hid behind Linku as he laughed. "Seems she doesn't trust you yet. But that'll happen soon enough." Linku said as he took a hold of the reins. "Let's get moving. Come on Epona." I just stared at him with a raised eyebrow as he passed me by.
I.. have to work with him?!
Ah, the Forsaken Lands...I had heard much about them from travelers and historians yet I never dreamed that one day I would have a chance to venture there. I have been a paladin for many years, slaying the occasion vampire, werewolf, stray skeletons and zombies, and other undead creatures and those who control them. A paladin such as myself could not pass up the chance to test his skill agaisnt the "endless hordes of the Forsaken Lands."
The way to the Forsaken Lands had been brought to my attention by a cloaked stranger. The stranger said he needed my servvices to retrieve a very valuable item that the wizard had taken from him long ago. Since the land was covered with zombies he had decided and decided correctly that I was the best man for job. He led me on a five day journey to a strange archway in the moutains. He touched the stones and muttered an echantment and there was a bright glow.
As the glow faded I stared wide-eyed. We were there...the Forsaken Lands...it was just as the stories told. Yet not a zombie in sight...strange...its as if...they knew not to be near this arch-way. The man turned to me and I saw his crooked smile from under his hood. "Remember! The wizard has it! You will have to journey through man dangers and trecherous obstacles to reach him. The wizard will not just hand it over so you will have to defeat the powerful wizard. Don't fail me Paladin." I simply looked at him and grinned. "Don't worry sir. It's what I do best."
