Lol its ok, don't feel dumb! I'd be stuck too, photoshop looks so complicated!
Okay opacity is how transparent the image can be. Like your window is opaque and your door is not (you probably know that xD). So with opacity, you should be able to adjust it so the layer can become more transparent. If you see 'opacity' and it has a little scroll lever thingie (xD), then try that out... It should work! It also might say Opacity percentages, 10% being not so transparent and 90% being really transparent. I'm not sure how photoshop works though, but I hope I helped a bit^^ I hope it works for ya :D

I have no idea either >_< But I use prntscr.com to add layers and then on the side bar it gives me a little scroll button that says 'opacity'... maybe photoshop has a similar option? I hope you figure it out!!
