Hmm... That's actually a pretty good one! Oftentimes I'll check the TV-rating if I'm watching the anime via a site like Hulu pr on Netflix (Crunchyroll doesn't always show it, I don't think) - if it's TV-MA, usually I will avoid it. Another good tip is to read the summary, if there's one available - and nearly every time you'll be able to find one. Reviews may also be helpful, or recommendations from people with similar standards. Most of the anime I've watched this summer were suggested by classmates of mine at BYU or through Film Forums held by our anime/fantasy/sci-fi/general nerd-stuff club (Quark for short).
Good luck! :D And nice to meet another LDS anime fan.
A lot of anime shows things that kind of go against the churches teachings, how do you screen anime to know what is or isn't appropriet to watch? (I'm LDS too, but I often get a good deal of hassle over my love for anime and stuff... I'm just interested in hearing what you think.)
