Digital coloring

Hey everyone! :D

I've made this tutorial quite some time ago, but I still color the same way as described here. I used photoshop CS3 and the brush hard round opacity sensitive brush - I never use a different brush, except sometimes the 'hard round size sensitive brush'.

I also want to attract some attention to the order of which you color. If you start a drawing with a background I always prefer to color the entire drawing in basic colors (flat colors even) to get a feel of the atmosphere. I usually start shading in the background first because that gives immediate depth to the drawing. Plus you determine the light source + you can adapt the shading of your characters to the enviroment/make them pop out. For me it's easier to let the characters adapt to the enviroment than the other way around :)

Layers
If I start from scratch, like I did with Momo in this tutorial, I usually just use one layer for background and multiple for Momo (you can also do just one layer on momo, but the advantage of adding a new layer is that you can add stuff without ruining the shading you already had).

Here's another drawing I did shown step by step, but in my opinion it explains less than my tutorial. But perhaps it's nice to see my progress :) LINK

I hope it helps and if you have any questions let me know!
