Plot: In the future, extremely advanced androids called giftia that are very human-like have been put into widespread circulation. Tsukasa Mizugaki has just joined SAI Corp's terminal service department. His task? To retrieve giftia that have reached the end of their short lifespans from their owners. (B+)
Characters: A good chunk of them are weak and/or unlikeable. (B-)
Art & Animation: A
Voice Acting: A-
Objectionable Content: Innuendo/suggestive themes, profanity, blood
Other: The biggest weak point of "Plastic Memories" is when it shifts from its main focus to try to play itself as a romantic comedy. But its strong point is in the way it deals with the retrievals and the relationships between the giftias and their owners.
Overall Score: B+
Plot: Atsushi is an outcast spurned as someone who brings only misfortune to others. When he has no place to go, he stumbles across a man who is attempting suicide and rescues him. That man is Dazai, a member of a special detective agency whose agents all have special abilities. When Atsushi discovers that he has powers of his own, Dazai hires him on as a member of the Armed Detective Agency... (B+)
Objectionable Content: Blood, profanity
Other: If you're looking for something a little bit different from the norm, this will probably satisfy you. It's a nice mix of detective story and shonen battle manga.
Overall Score: B
Plot: The kingdom of Kouka is at peace until Princess Yona's beloved cousin, Soo-won, kills the king and seizes the throne. The shell-shocked princess suddenly has to flee for her life with her bodyguard, Hak, and Soo-won's followers are never far behind. Yona seeks the power of the four dragons of legend to protect herself and Hak, but as she travels beyond the walls of her sheltered palace life, slowly assembling a small band of allies, she realizes that her country is not at all the peaceful place that her father had wished for. Can Yona find the strength to aid her ailing kingdom? (A)
Art & Animation: A-
Voice Acting: A
Objectionable Content: Blood, profanity, innuendo/suggestive themes
Other: This is based on a manga of the same name (which is also excellent). The plot of the anime follows closely.
Yona is mostly a drama/romance, but has some well-timed comedy to balance the serious moments. The story is very well written, and characters will draw you in. It's my favorite series this season!
Overall Score: A-
Plot: Generations ago, the heroic Yattermen defeated the evil Donboro gang, bringing peace to the Yatter Kingdom. Leopard and her mother and two attendants are the descendants of the exiled villains. Despite poor conditions, they all live happily. When her mother falls sick, Leopard hurries to the Yatter Kingdom to ask the heroes for help -- only to be mercilessly chased away. Disillusioned with the so-called heroes who allowed her mother to die, Leopard revives the Donboro gang and sets out to punish the corrupt Yattermen. (A)
Art & Animation: B
Voice Acting: B+
Objectionable Content: Profanity, suggestive/sexual material
Other: I've never seen the original "Yatterman", so I'm sure I'm missing all kinds of references and homages in this new incarnation. Some points in the series can be awkward, but so far it's an interesting take on the traditional "good-guys-vs-bad-guys" formula.
Overall Score: B+
Plot: An alien monster that has blasted a hole in the moon is now the homeroom teacher for a class of problem students. The government is offering a hefty sum to anyone who can assassinate the monster before it does the same to Earth -- and the task has fallen to class 3-E! (Definitely something a bit off the beaten path -- B+)
Art & Animation: B+
Voice Acting: Not so much a question of the acting itself, but I'm not a fan of some of the casting choices. (A-)
Music: Not outstanding for the better or worse (B-)
Objectionable Content: Profanity, suggestive/sexual material, blood
Other: The comedy/action manga has only recently been released as an anime series, and I've mainly been reading the manga. It's weird, but in a satisfyingly fun way. (The antics of the alien/monster (dubbed "Koro-sensei") are a show in themselves.)
Overall Score: B
