Hello and welcome to Amaranth Theater.

Well, okay, it's not really a moviehouse, but it's sort of similar as I will be posting my videos here.

I got the name from the title of the comic I was going to do with the character with my username. It is also a sort of reference to Sampaguita Pictures, which is a now-defunct movie company in the Philippines. (a sampaguita is a flower, and so is an amaranth)

Ilocos trip 2nd Semester 2009-2010

How should I intro this...?

First of all, I'm a student under the BS Geography program in the University of the Philippines Diliman. Because of that, I have Geography subjects (duh), and because of that, there tend to be a lot of field trips. These are videos of one of those trips.

The Ilocos region is located in the northern part of Luzon, Philippines. To be more specific, it's on the northernmost westernmost part of the main
part of the said major island (Luzon). People keep saying that when you go there, be sure to taste their native longganisa and (one of my relatives said) bring back their garlic as a souvenir. It is also common for non-natives of the place to say that the natives are kuripot, or stingy. I don't really know the truth behind that.

Here are the videos.

These two videos are of the lighthouse on Cape Bojeador. It's amusing that there's a mini-museum of the lighthouse, but it's a shame I can't go in the lighthouse itself. At first, people weren't allowed in, but then the caretakers sort of gave in? I don't really know.

This is a video of the Bangui Wind Farm. Too bad the weather wasn't that good. It would be a sight to see the windmills against the blue sky, considering the sand is black. At least most of the windmills were moving.

I really would like to help in the alternative energy thing someday. It sounds promising here in the Philippines because of so much untapped potential.

This is a video of part of the beach in Pagudpod. This particular spot I took a video of ain't exactly a tourist destination, as it's just waves and big mossy rocks. But I guess it's interesting for scientists and people like me who just like odd stuff.

This is a video of Sarrat Church. I only took the outside since it was closed, and we weren't going to be there for very long anyway.

I must admit, I'm not really fond of buildings...

This is a video of Paoay Church. This is a famous church building, often seen in postcards. I took the inside, but seriously, I think the outside is much more impressive. If I'm not mistaken, this is also deemed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Wow.

This is a video of a random beach we went to. I sort of forgot to ask why we stopped here.

Last, but not the least, here is a slideshow I made using the pictures I took. The song I used is Overdrive by the band Eraserheads.

Here are the lyrics, if you're curious... I'll only include the opening spoken part and the sung parts. I couldn't take note of the whole spoken part at the end of it, so I'll leave it out for now.

Overdrive
by Eraserheads

Tagalog
Alam mo, meron akong pangarap sa buhay.
Sana, matupad na.

Magda-drive ako hanggang Baguio
Magda-drive ako hanggang Bicol
Magda-drive ako hanggang Batangas
Tapos magsi-swimming doon sa beach

Isasama ko ang girlfriend ko
Isasama ko kahit sinong may gusto
Kahit may kasama siyang aso
Basta't meron siyang baong sariling buto

Magdadala ako ng pagkain
Burger, fries, tapsilog, at siopao
Magda-drive ako hanggang Visayas
Magda-drive ako hanggang sa Mindanao

Magda-drive ako buong taon
Magda-drive ako habangbuhay
Magda-drive ako hanggang... buwan
Please please lang turuan n'yo akong magdrive

Gusto kong matutong magdrive
(kahit na wala akong kotse)
Gusto kong matutong magdrive
(kahit na walang lisensya)
Magdrive... drive... drive...
Magdrive...
Magdrive...
Drive
Drive
Drive
Drive

English translation
(take note that this is just my own translation, it's not complete, and it might be wrong in some parts... feel free to correct and stuff)

You know, I have a dream (in life.)
I hope it comes true.

I will drive up to Baguio
I will drive up to Bicol
I will drive up to Batangas
And then I will go swimming there at the beach

I will take my girlfriend with me
I will take anyone who wants to go with me
Even if s/he has a dog with her/him
As long as the dog has its own bone

I will bring food
Burger, fries, tapsilog, and siopao
I will drive up to Visayas
I will drive up to Mindanao

I will drive the whole year round
I will drive for the rest of my life
I will drive up to... the moon
Please please teach me how to drive

I want to learn how to drive
(even if I don't own a car)
I want to learn how to drive
(even if there's no license)

End
