Challenge updates should go somewhere else. Like several others that have commented here, I'm not too interested (putting it mildly) about them. Though for those that ARE interested, I think a link on the main page, or on the dashboard at the top, with all challenges sorted by newest would be most effective and efficient.

As for the comments/comment replies, I have to admit that now I sometimes miss the replies. Maybe I'm just blind/an idiot though.

What never made any sense to me with having comment and comment reply links is that they both go the top of the comments page, what would make sense would be to add an anchor to the comment replies section and fix it so the link in the backroom jumps to that section of the page, otherwise, it's just redundant to have two links side-bu-side going to the exact same place.

The Challenge link in the backroom comes off a little spammy to me in it's current incarnation, but that's just me. I'm not overly interested in participating in challenges for the time being, so it's an unnecessary distraction.

I honestly don't log in enough to really notice. However I do agree with the sentiment that the deal for challenges doesn't seem very effective. Perhaps going to a page that listed all new challenges would be better.

I like how you fixed the comments so they're together on the same line. The challenges doesn't seem too useful though since it only shows you the last one.

Perhaps a portal where they are all listed together? I'm not sure how you would set that up though. ^^

That backroom tweak looks really good :D Since challenges are not very often held it easily keeps you updated on challenges - you do not have to click the portal and then the challenges to check if there are any new challenges.

I agree with tiggerola, we need one page where we can see the last 5 challenges of each portal. It's a lot easier if you want to check on the last challenges - you don't have to click each time the portal. Also you'd need to be able to go from that page with the last 5 challenges of each portal to the challenges of one portal. This challenge page would be a little bit double on the backroom update, but I think the backroom update will remind people that there are challenges and it makes it a lot easier knowing when there is a new challenge.

*edit* People who like challenges will definitely seek them out and keep themselves updated.

Hmm it also might be an idea to have something for the challenges on the portfolios page of each user - and when a contest hasn't ended yet highlight it. *ends edit*

It's an idea, but since it's limited to the most current one, it doesn't seem to do all that much. o_O

I kinda agree with Ace here; challenge updates would look better on the front page. It kind of clogs up the backroom, really.
Plus, if people want to participate in challenges, then they'll go out seeking it, I'm sure. People who don't want to, won't. Quite simple.

The challenge thing looks a little out of place, in my opinion. And can you do something about the fact that it updates me for my own comments?

Tweak is nice. Looks good.

However, the fact that my traumatized brain cell likes to make tweaks of its own in the form of reading something completely different than what you wrote there made for an interesting postulation of what the subject line actually said... I read it as "Bathroom" instead of "Backroom"!

The comments thing is okay, I guess. Although, I don´t know about the challenges part. I do like Ace's idea, why not add it to the front page, instead? The backroom won't look so full. ;3

I like the comments part, but not so much the challenges, cuz im not one to do many challenges.

Well, I'll tell you what I do like is the new comments notification with the number of comments and replies being on the same line.

I still think challenge updates should go somewhere on the front page, maybe right above all the art submissions. Put the first one of every category in there.

With just the one it doesn't give the other challenge categories enough exposure. Plus it looks like another thing to clutter up my backroom, lol.

It's annoying, being in the middle of the numbered notifications. and it doesn't seem fair to just show the newest bacauset there might be one that is up forever that there is no interest for and then someone puts up one then someone else puts up one so the one person in the middle gets overlooked.
What we need is a Challenge page so we can see like the 5 latets challenges in all categories. Another idea is to on the portals have maybe a list for challenges under the quiz section that pertain to that particular category. So bleach fans or naruto fans who aren't into challenges might see that someone is holding a pairing contest or some other theme for characters that interest them.
Another idea I had XD this might not be as good, but like there are the silver and gold medals for entering, maybe a platinum medal or something for hosting a challenge? then when people visit they can also notice if that person has a current challenge and/or see challenges they have done in the past.

Not so sure about placing the challenges there... Like Katana I'm not too interested in them (especially if they're art challenges). Although putting comments and replies together seems like a good idea.

I want to know the same question as Katana said about the comment. That bugs me a lot. It's like: "OH SNAP I GOT A COMMENT" Then when you click on it, it turns out to be you... orz I do that all the time...

Since I really don't care about Challenges - sorry, just really not my thing - I can't say I'm impressed or unimpressed.

I guess the comments thing is nice...? Hard to say...Um, is that thing fixed yet where, if you post a comment on your own post, it shows up as a new comment? That's the one thing that bothers me the most...
