NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA BATMANGA

For the first time in history, DC Comics will translate the classic Batman manga into English and distribute it digitally. Created by Jiro Kuwata (8 Man), the series ran between 1966-1967 in Weekly Shonen King magazine. It shares many similarities with the original comic series, and features lesser known criminals such as Lord Death Man. The first issue is currently out. Link

When Marnie Was Here Trailer Posted

At long last, the first animation for When Marnie Was There, the latest work by Studio Ghibli, has been revealed. Previewed were Priscilla Ahn’s song “Fine on the Outside”, the film’s main theme, and a new animation style courtesy of director Hiromasa Yonebayashi (The Secret World of Arrietty). The film premieres in Japan July 19th.

Ninja Slayer Trailer Posted

For months, talks of Studio Trigger’s newest work Ninja Slayer have been minimal. However a trailer, which premiered at Anime Expo, seeks to give viewers the backstory of the mysterious novel the anime is based on. Akira Amemiya (Inferno Cop) will direct the series, though no announcements regarding a premiere date have been realized.

Seven Minutes With HAL

Anime distributor FUNimation has uploaded the first seven minutes of the highly anticipated English release of HAL. Produced by Studio Wit (Attack on Titan) and marking the directorial debut of Ryoutarou Makihara (Guilty Crown, The Tatami Galaxy), the film tells of an android that becomes human to save a girl from depression after the death of her boyfriend.

Sailor Moon Redub Cast Announced

Viz Media has announced the new English cast for the original Sailor Moon anime. This new cast hopes to unite the entire franchise via Viz Media’s recent acquisition of the franchise. Your new Sailor Scouts are:

  • Stephanie Sheh as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon
  • Kate Higgins as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury
  • Cherami Leigh as Minako Aiko/Sailor Venus
  • Cristina Vee as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars
  • Amanda C. Miller as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter
  • Robbie Daymond as Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask
  • Michelle Ruff as Luna
  • Johnny Yong Bosch as Artemis

Gargantia Dub Cast Announced

Viz Media also announced the English cast of 2013’s science fiction hit Gargantia on the Venderous Planet. The cast includes Cassandra Lee, Matthew Mercer, Julie Ann Taylor, Patrick Seitz, and the leading role premiere of newcomer Alan Lee as Ledo. No announcement regarding an official release date has been made known. Link

One Piece Film Z Dub Cast Announced

FUNimation has announced the English cast for the movie One Piece Film Z. While many roles are being reprised, four characters will make their premiere. They are Jeremy Schwartz as Z, Lauren Landa as Vice-Admiral Ain, Matthew Mercer as Bins, and Ray Hurd as Admiral Kizaru. The film is set to be released in Fall 2014. Link

Bayonetta: Bloody Fate Dub Cast Announced

FUNimation also announced the English cast for the film Bayonetta: Bloody Fate. Based on the popular video game, the cast includes Hellena Taylor, Grey DeLisle, Yuri Lowenthal, and Grant Albrecht. Currently, there is no word on an official release date. Link

International Manga To Receive Anime

Studio GAINAX has announced their newest project. Based on the manga by Dubai native Qais Sedki and writing duo Akira Himekawa, Gold Ring is the story of a young falconer who enters regional competitions. According to GAINAX, they are overseeing the production, which will be handled by companies within the United Arab Emirates. No announcement regarding a release date has be made. Link

Beyond The Small Screen

As announced by the show’s official website, 2013’s Beyond the Boundary will receive a film adaptation in Spring 2015. The original work told the story of Akihito Kanbara and Mirai Kuriyama, two half-yōmu humans caught in a war that has upset the balance of the universe. Link

Works in the Key of P

The Pokémon Company International has announced, in collaboration with Princeton Entertainment, “Pokémon: Symphonic Evolutions.” The touring concert series will feature music from all iterations of the main Pokémon video game franchise. Princeton Entertainment was previously successful with the concert tour “The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses”. Link

Très Au Revoir

For twelve years, magazine Ciel Très Très served as a subdivision of Ciel, a major publisher of the yaoi genre. However, the August issue has announced that the publication will no longer exist. All current series will be liquidated to the main magazine. The magazine published the likes of Shungiku Nakamura (Junjō Romantica), Miyuki Abe (Hakkenden), and Kaname Itsuki (Lost Boys). Link

The Bottom of the Descent

Eiji Ohtsuka and Shou Tajima announced in the 20th volume of their manga MPD-Psycho that the next volume would be the last. Since 1997, the series has told the ultra-violent tale of a detective with split personality disorder who, investigating a string of murders, finds a conspiracy that links him to the shadowy Gakuso Organization. Magazine Comic Blade has announced their series Robotics;Notes will end on July 30th. Adapted from the light novel by Nitroplus and 5pb. (Steins;Gate, Chaos;HEAd), the series followed the sole two members of Tanegashima High’s robotics club in the year 2019, and their work to recreate Gunvarrel, the lead mecha of a classic anime. The Sensitive Side of Otaku

Sometimes you look at something and wonder why it wasn’t invented sooner. Case in point, “Animachicon in Akihabara”, a speed dating service for otaku. Launched in May, the first outing saw 102 men and 104 women turn out to meet that special somebody. Considering the popularity, organizers are planning more dates and a boy’s love event in Ikebukuro this August. Link
