The Wind Rises Premieres In North America

After much anticipation, Hayao Miyazaki’s final film has arrived in American theaters. Below is a scene from the English version with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Horikoshi and Stanley Tucci as Caproni.

Chivalry In The New Age

King Records released the first footage for the anime adaptation of Tsutomu Nihei’s Knights of Sidonia. The clip features a fight between the Morito mecha warriors and the violent Gauna aliens. Knights of Sidonia premieres in April.

Twin Sisters Join The Vocaloid Ranks

The ever-expanding family of Yamaha’s vocal software just got a little bigger. Anon and Kanon are officially the two newest Vocaloids. They represent alto vocals and bear a striking resemblance to Rin and Len Kagamine. The package will officially be released on March 3rd and the demo song can be found below.

From The New World Dub Cast Revealed

Sentai Filmworks has announced the cast for their dub of 2012’s From the New World. The science fiction action series will star Emily Neves, Greg Ayres, Monica Rial, Blake Shepard and Clint Bickham. The series will be made available on April 15. Link

The Final Course

In a surprisingly move by Toei Animation and Fuji TV, the anime adaptation of Toriko has announced it will come to an end this March after a three year run. Toriko was originally billed as the long running series that would replace the Big 3 in time. The manga by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro will continue regardless. Link

Time Is of the Essence

Back in 2012, comedian/director Tekken released the short film Pendulum, the story of the turbulent life of two lovers, to critical acclaim on the Internet. It has been announced that the film will see a full length live action adaptation starring Shidou Nakamura and Manami Konishi as the couple. Production will begin sometime in Spring. Link

Manga History On Display

The latest 7-minute long trailer for Shonen Jump J-Stars: Victory Vs. details new facts. The cast is officially tapped at 52 characters, ranging from 1976’s Kankichi Ryōtsu (Kochikame) to 2012’s Koro-Sensei (Assassination Classroom). The possible gameplay modes include J Adventure (story), Victory Road (gauntlet), and Online 2v2. The fighter officially arrives on PS3/VITA on March 19th.

Killer is Dead, PC is Alive

Game publisher Deep Silver has announced a PC port for Suda51’s 2012 hack and slasher Killer is Dead. The game will be retitled as Killer is Dead – Nightmare Edition, and will be available for on May 9 universally.

This Isn’t About Death

March is just around the corner. With the turning of the month, the release of the hotly anticipated Dark Souls II grows closer. To sate your hunger, Namco Bandai released a new trailer, detailing exactly what you fight for.

A Foxy Deal

Konami’s long hyped return to the Metal Gear Solid franchise could come with some extra bells and whistles for PlayStation users. The “Fox Edition” is a bundle that contains not only copies of Metal Gear Solid V and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeros, but also a limited edition PS4 emblazoned with the FOX logo. Asking price? 461 US Dollars. Link

Sonata in the Key of X

Prolific composer and legendary band frontman Yoshiki has announced the first ten dates of his solo effort, Yoshiki Classical World Tour. Highlighted will be his extensive career with X Japan, in the style of classical arrangements. The first tour date is April 25th in Costa Mesa, CA. Link

Truth Prevails At The Theatre

A collaboration between publisher Shogakukan and acting troupe Kinokuniya Southern Theater places one of manga’s greatest minds in the spotlight. Gosho Aoyama’s Detective Conan will be the subject of a stage play entitled "The Curtain Rising Bell of Murderous Intent.” The show runs June 4-15. Link

A Manga A Day Keeps The Doctor Away?

Researchers from a Brooklyn firm say that manga can have health benefits. Two groups were given either a manga titled “Fight For Your Right to Fruit” or an ordinary newsletter detailing healthy eating habits. Children were 21% more likely to eat healthier options after reading the manga. Researchers state that manga’s unique storytelling methods allow for immersion, and thus greater consumption of the message. Link
