The Titans Have Made Landfall
FUNimation will premiere the first episode of the Attack on Titan English dub at Anime Boston 2014. The production crew includes Mike McFarland as ADR Director, John Burgmeier as head writer, and J. Michael Tatum as scriptwriter. Anime Boston runs March 21-23. Link
Live Action Anime, Attempt #345
The live-action adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s epic Akira has a new face. Director Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, Unknown) is looking to rework the landmark film for a Western audience. In doing so, he has already drawn criticism for comments about Japanese culture and their lack of “strong characters”. Collet-Sera’s next film, Non-Stop, premieres February 28. Link
The Wind Rises English Trailer Streamed
Two new teaser trailers for Hayao Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises have been released for English speaking territories. The English dub will star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, and Stanley Tucci. The film premieres in America on February 21, Australia on February 27, and the UK on May 9.
Eisner Awards Nominate Miyazaki, Takahashi
The 2014 Eisner Hall of Fame for individuals who excel in the comic book industry has announced possible inductees. Among the fourteen names, one notes Hayao Miyazaki, for his manga Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, which inspired the film, and Rumiko Takahashi, for her manga InuYasha, Ranma ½, and Mermaid Saga, among others. Four winners will be announced July 25. Link
Mangaka Welcomes Third Child
Legendary mangaka Hiromu Arakawa (Full Metal Alchemist, Silver Spoon) has announced the birth of her third child. The baby was born back in January and has changed her mother's schedule considerably. In her author’s notes, Arakawa writes “Human Transmutation Complete.” Link
Who's That Pokémon?
Nintendo and GAMEFREAK have announced the newest Pokémon in the form of Diancie. The creature is said to be related to Carbink, by way of a strange mutation. Diancie is set to make its premiere in the recently announced seventeenth Pokémon film.
We’ve Missed You, Darling
Nintendo has released the trailer for the upcoming action title, Bayonetta 2. This new game pits the damsel against Purgatorio in the picturesque Mt. Fimbulvinter, the earthly gate between heaven and hell. At this time, no release date has been announced.
Pokémon Puzzler Returns
The classic puzzle game Pokémon Trozei! was released back in 2005. Since then, fans have been awaiting a next gen release. Their wish has been granted, with the announcement of Pokémon Battle Trozei for the 3DS. The game will debut on March 20th.
The Life of Anno
Hideki Anno is one of anime's most recognizable figures. As the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion and the founder of Studio GAINAX, he transformed anime in the late 90's into a platform for philosophical discussion and cultural obsession. Now his wife, mangaka Moyoco Anno, will take you behind the scenes in her essay manga, Insufficient Direction. Her work seeks to show the lifestyles of Anno and how their marriage has changed over the years. Link
Shonen Fighter Rolls Out More Names
Two titans of comedy will be joining the upcoming Shonen Jump J-Stars! Victory Vs. title. They are Bobobo from Bobobo-bo Bobo-Bo and Arale Norimaki from Dr. Slump. With these names along with three others, the game’s roster has expanded to 44 characters.

Space Opera Legend Returns
Mangaka Yoshiki Tanaka announced that his masterpiece The Legend of the Galactic Heroes would see the light of day again. A new anime of his work seeks to follow the source material closer than previous installations. The work is best known for the 1988-2000 anime, which holds the record for being the longest OVA of all time.

The Revenge of Utopia
Sony Pictures, in association with Shinji Aramaki and Joseph Chou, have announced Appleseed Alpha, the third film in the Appleseed franchise. The story centers on Deunan Knute, a young woman who seeks shelter in the war-torn city of Utopia with her robot partner Brialeos. Appleseed Alpha will receive a home release this summer.

This Assassin Has Been Cut
The long running series Azumi, created by Yu Koyama, has announced its end on February 28. The series began in 1994, ended in 2008, and was reborn in 2009. The story followed the exploits of a woman raised in a clandestine sect in Feudal Japan who grows up to become the foremost assassin of the country.

Japanese Olympian Becomes Instant Star
With the Winter Olympics in Sochi, one begins to see stars emerge. Perhaps the biggest story is Japanese skater Yuzuru Hanyū, whose record-breaking performance won him the gold medal in the Men’s Single division. The anime and manga industry soon flooded tributes in for Hanyū. It even spawned talks of a manga from Another author Yukito Ayatsuji.

Silver Medalist An Anime Fan
Not to be outdone by the competition, the Men’s Single silver medalist Patrick Chan of Canada decided to get in the anime game. Before a 2011 trip to the Japan Open Competition (which he won), he mentally prepared by watching K-On!, much to the Internet’s amusement.
