Major Acquisition In Anime Streaming Giant

The Chernin Group, a global media conglomerate, purchased majority ownership of Crunchyroll, the popular anime streaming service. Link

Anime Mirai 2014 Trailer

The first trailer for 2014’s Anime Mirai has been posted. The anthology film includes Ultra Super Pictures' Harmonie, A-1 Pictures’ The Big First-Grader and The Small Second-Grader, Shinei Animation’s Paroru’s Future Island, and Studio 4°C’s Kuro no Su –Chronus-. The film premieres March 1, 2014.

Annie Awards Recognize Japan

The prestigious Annie Awards, a salute to the best of the international animation community, is recognizing several Japanese nominations for 2013. In the Best Animated Feature category, The Wind Rises and A Letter to Momo are the two anime films this year in a category of six. Studio Pierrot is being recognized for their animation work on Avatar: The Legend of Korra for Best Children’s TV Show. Finally, Katushiro Otomo will receive the Winsor McCay Award for lifetime achievement, alongside Steven Spielberg and Phil Tippet. Link

Space Dandy English Cast Revealed

FUNimation has announced the English cast for Toonami’s premiere of Shinichiro Watanabe’s Space Dandy. The cast includes Ian Sinclair, Alison Viktorin, Joel MacDonald, and J. Michael Tatum. The show premieres January 4th at 11:30 EST on Toonami. Link

Kamisama Kiss English Cast Revealed

FUNimation has announced the English dub cast for 2012’s title Kamisama Kiss. The cast includes Tia Ballard, J. Michael Tatum, Sean O’Connor, and Micah Solusod. The anime will be released in standard and premium editions on February 11. LInk

264 Japanese Artists Join Together Against Prime Minister

To oppose the pending State Secrets Protection Bill, which would give the Japanese government more secrecy on internal matters, 264 members of the Japanese film industry have banded together. Names included in this group include directors Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and Hirokazu Kore-Eda. Link

Cult Hit Has One Major Critic

You can’t win them all, but in this case it would have helped. Yoshiyuki Tomino, original creator of the Gundam franchise, stated in his online magazine that he would never read Hajime Isayama’s manga, Attack On Titan. Though he applauds Isayama’s desire and passion, he described the artwork as "grotesque" and "comparable to pornography." Link

AoT Ending Changed

In other Attack on Titan news, creator Hajime Isayama has discussed the ending of his manga and how he has changed it as fan support came in. He stated that at one point he wanted to betray his fanbase and have all the characters die. Link

Anime’s Most Desirable

In a survey conducted in 100 countries, 2,845 respondents revealed which anime character they most wanted to date. The most desirable female character was Asuna from Sword Art Online and most desirable male was Levi from Attack on Titan.

France Gets Pirated

The traveling One Piece Music Symphony will make its European debut next year. The traveling show highlights music from the famous series including "We Are," "We Go!" and "Family." A trailer for the event is posted below.


RIP Ryoko Kinomiya

Voice actress Ryoko Kinomiya passed away on November 25 due to multiple organ failure. For over 50 years, she established her reputation as one of Japan’s most prolific voice actresses. Her credits include Promethium and Maetel’s mother from Galaxy Express 999, Speed’s mother in Speed Racer, and the narrator of Queen Millennia and Saint Young Men. A service will be held on January 25. Link

RIP Ichirō Tsunohazu

Manga artist Ichirō Tsunohazu passed away on November 3 due to an unknown illness. His claim to fame is providing the art for Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni, created by Higurashi no Naku Koro ni writer Ryukishi07, over the course of two years. Link
