Live-Action After Twenty-Nine Years

In 1974 Strange Psychokenetic Energy, Lupin III's one and only live action film, was released. This week came news of a new Lupin III live action film, which will come out in summer 2014. Link

American Cartoonist Insurance Fund Plea

Since 1984, Stan Sakai has been the driving force behind the samurai epic comic Usagi Yojimbo. Now, fans are giving back in his time of need. Sakai’s wife is currently in the hospital due to a harsh disease, and a site has been set up for anyone to donate to help cover medical bills. In addition, several auctions of original artwork have been set up. Link

Space Dandy Teaser Streamed

Toonami continues to hype up their very first world premiere, Space Dandy, the first totally comedic title from Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo). A new trailer highlights the series' action and animation.

Nyan Koi! Dub Cast Announced

Sentai Filmworks has announced the English cast of the 2009 title Nyan Koi!. The cast will include Connor Leach, Lesley Pedersen, Marcy Bannor, and Maggie Flecknoe. The DVD and Blu-Ray will be released on December 31. Link

Say, “I Love You” Dub Cast Announced

Sentai Filimworks has also announced the English cast of 2012’s Say, “I Love You”. The cast includes Caitlynn French, Leraldo Anzaldua, Monica Rial, and Greg Ayres. The DVD and Blu-Ray both arrive December 24. Link

Fairy Tail Movie Clip Streamed

FUNimation will release the DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Pack of Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Princess on December 10. Before the release, FUNimation has dropped a clip from one of the film’s earlier scenes.

The Most Moe of All Moe

In the annual Saimoe Most Moe Girl contest, fans voted on who they thought was the cutest girl in any 2013 anime. The winner was Madoka Kaname of the third Puella Magi Madoka Magica film, beating out her co-star Sayaka Miki. Previous winners include Toki Onjōji of Saki Episode of Side A, Azusa Nakano for K-On!, and Taiga Aisaka of Toradora! Link

FUNimation Acquires Former BANDAI Title

After distribution company BANDAI Entertainment filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, many titles fell into the hands of either FUNimation or Sentai Filmworks. According to the latest DVD of One Piece, FUNimation has leaked the news of the acquisition of Eureka Seven. FUNimation also owns the sequel series, Eureka Seven AO. Link

Out of the Mecha, On to the Mound

GAINAX’s classic anime Gurren Lagann is being adapted into a new alternate universe manga, with a twist. Based on a previous drama CD, Kazuki Nakashima presents Gurren Lagann: Total Idiot Man, in which the cast decides to start a baseball team. The series begins December 28. Link

Classic Title Reborn in New Manga

The fantasy franchise Record of Lodoss War has been around since 1998, when it was released as a PC video game. In a recent article from magazine COMPTIQ, the 1998 manga Record of Lodoss War: The Grey Witch will be readapted by Tomomasa Takuma (Code Geass: Nightmare of Nunally, Kurogane Connection) starting this month. Gantz Creator Announces New Title

Manga-ka Hiroya Oku only recently ended his highly successful manga Gantz this year after thirteen years of serialization. Now, he’s back in the game with a new title, which will be released in January. More details to follow as they arrive. Link

Pony Canyon Awards Anime Adaptation

In their first Anime-ka Taisho contest, Pony Canyon gave one independent studio the chance to adapt their original idea into an anime. The winner was Physics Point and their concept title D.backup. In addition, Physics Point was awarded a one million yen prize. Link
