Miyazaki Trades Skies for Swords

Following the release of his final film, The Wind Rises, many wonder about Hayao Miyazaki’s next project. Wonder no more as Ghibli president Toshio Suzuki has confirmed that Miyazaki is working on a samurai manga based on Japan’s Warring States period. Link

Miura Trades Fantasy for Future

Young Animal Magazine reported in its 22nd annual issue that Berserk manga-ka Kentarou Miura will place the long running manga on hiatus to focus on a ten chapter mini-series. Gigantomakhia will be set 100 million years in the future and will begin with a forty-four page first chapter. Link

Classic Mecha Series Finally Arrives in America

Hulu has begun streaming an English subtitled version of God Mars, marking the first time the 1981 title has appeared in North America. The story surrounds Mars, an alien child sent to destroy Earth who is adopted into the culture and decides to fight against his race under the name Takeru. Link

Btooom! Dub Cast Announced

Sentai Filmworks has announced the English cast of the 2012 action title Btooom!. The cast includes Tyler Galindo, Brittney Karbowski, Chelsea McCurdy and Jovan Jackson. The title arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray on December 10. Link

La storia della Arcana Famiglia Dub Cast Announced

Sentai Filmworks has announced the English cast of the 2012 mafia title Arcana Famiglia. The cast stars Luci Christian, Kara Greenberg, Blake Shepard, Andrew Love and Chuck Huber. The title will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on November 26. Link

Kiki’s Delivery Service Footage Revealed

The upcoming live-action version of Hayao Miyazaki’s 1989 film Kiki’s Delivery Service has revealed a small amount of footage in its second trailer. The film will be released March 1, 2014.

Toonami Flagship Title Returns, Grown Up

In the mid 2000s, Toonami became the first American channel block to air the wildly popular shōnen title Naruto. Now, Toonami has announced that with the airing of Shinichiro Watanabe’s Space Dandy, the block will also premiere Naruto Shippūden, in glorious uncut format.Link

Esteemed University Hosts Iconic Franchise

The Nakano campus of Meiji University will host a summit to honor the Pokémon franchise. The event will be hosted by several regional clubs devoted to the series and is even being supported by Junichi Masuda, developmental director for the video game series. The event takes place December 8. Link

Canadian Film Festival All About Anime

The Ontario-based Waterloo Festival honors the international film community. This year, anime is the dominant force. Events will honor the works of directors Hayao Miyazaki and Mamoru Oshii, while the anime films being shown include Evangelion 3.0, the entire Berserk: The Golden Age film trilogy, and the 009 Re:Cyborg film. The event begins November 14. Link

Many years ago, anime fans and gamers had few options to find their passion. One of them was the legendary Blockbuster, king of video rental stores. Despite the company’s bankruptcy in 2011, the final 300 American stores which remained opened have officially closed, marking the final nail in an inevitable coffin. Link
