New Ghibli Film Trailer

It's been 14 years since Studio Ghibli director Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies) has made a new movie. A new minute-long trailer for The Tale of Princess Kaguya shows he hasn't lost his touch. The film premieres November 23.

Toonami Gets First Honors with Watanabe Series

In a surprising turn of events, programming block Toonami has announced it now owns the exclusive rights to Space Dandy, the newest anime from Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo). In addition, they will air the show even before the Japanese premiere in January as part of a new 6.5 hour long block. Link

Miyazaki Treated For Heart Condition

According to the magazine Josei Jishin, Hayao Miyazaki is taking regular visits to a Tokyo hospital regarding a heart condition. Through a close source, it is revealed the director has had the condition for two years and has had racking pain with even light activity such as prolonged walks. Link

Bebop Film Loses Tentative Star

Depending on how much you enjoy Keanu Reeves, this could be a piece of interest for you. According to a recent Reddit AMA, the actor will not seek continued interest in the live action Cowboy Bebop film. He referenced a previously mentioned half billion dollar budget and interest in other films. This decision comes after three years of deliberation. Link

Little Busters! Dub Cast Announced

Sentai Filmworks has announced the English cast of 2012’s Little Busters!. The cast includes Shannon Emerick, Brittney Karbowski, Blake Shepard, and Greg Ayres. The DVD and Blu-Ray will be released November 19. Link

New Manga-ka Has Youth On Her Side

Sato Ito may only be a highschooler, but in the December issue of Nakayoshi magazine, she will make her manga debut. Her series, Secret of a Boy Wearing Cat Ears, comes after winning the Niigata Manga Competition three straight years. Link

Court Is Back In Session

Six years after his retirement, an icon reemerges to investigate the bombing of a courthouse. Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice join forces with the psychoanalytical attorney Athena Sykes in Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies. The game is now available digitally in North America and Europe.

Supernatural Manga Returns

Kodansha’s Afternoon Magazine made an announcement regarding the return of a highly acclaimed manga. Yuki Urushibara’s Mushi-shi will return for two chapters as part of a special edition. The original manga ran between 1995 and 2008, with adaptations of a 2005 anime and a 2006 live-action film. Link

Saitama prefecture governor Kiyoshi Ueda was recently quoted at the Ani-tama festival saying his district is "a holy anime site." He went on to state that Anohana, Lucky Star, and Kimasama Kiss all take place in the region and this has led to jumps in tourism throughout the years. Link

On the curtails of the Vocaloid keyboard, Yamaha has introduced a new innovation in vocal synthesis. The Vocaloducer takes the input of lyrics and creates an entire melody and harmony around it. The capabilities include 18,000 sound combinations using 30 genres, 50 Japanese characters, and the entire Vocaloid sound bank. Link

A Songs Born From Clouds

In other Vocaloid tech news, a Hokkaido based research group called “The Cloud Project” has successfully used cloud cover to portray a live performance of Hatsune Miku. The song is Isao Tomita’s “Night on the Galactic Railroad” from the anime of the same name.
