Final Trailer For Cutting-Edge Compilation

A trailer for Katsuhiro Otomo’s upcoming short story collection, Short Peace, will be the last before home release. The four short films (Tsukumo, Combustible, Gambo, and A Farewell to Arms) and one video game (Suda51’s Ranko Yukigimi’s Longest Day) are designed to challenge the medium of anime by "uniting the top creators at the leading edge of Japanese animation."

FUNimation Debuts Strong World

Produced by original series creator Eiichiro Oda, One Piece: Strong World was called the film that "raised the bar for Shonen Jump." FUNimation now looks to release the acclaimed feature on DVD and Blu-Ray. In addition, this film marks the premiere of Ian Sinclair in the role of Brook, the ninth member of the Straw Hat Pirates.

Titan Killing In The Palm of Your Hand

Game developer Spike Chunsoft premiered the first trailer for the 3DS video game based on the anime Attack on Titan. Attack on Titan: Last Wings of Humanity puts you in the role of members from the Survey Corps as you defend humanity from the impending Titan doom. In addition, a multiplayer mode allows for customizable characters and military training.

The Gang’s All Here

Hulu announced they would add the series Lupin III Part III to their online streaming service as part of their anime catalogue. With this inclusion, all four Lupin III TV series are together in one place for free legal streaming. It also marks the first time the Part III episodes are available to the entire United States. Six New Pokémon: The Origin Ads, Giovanni Revealed

The much anticipated Pokémon: The Origin special revealed six new commercials focusing on each major character. Announced for the series is the inclusion of characters like Red’s mother, members of Team Rocket, and the legendary crime boss, Giovanni. The special premieres October 2. Link

Bayonetta’s Back

In growing anticipation for SEGA’s forthcoming title, Bayonetta 2, an anime film has been commissioned: Bayonetta: Bloody Fate. Studio Gonzo will provide the animation and the title will be directed by Fuminori Kizaki (Afro Samurai, Basilisk). The film premieres in Japan on November 23.

Superband Adds Super Saiyan

On September 28 in Tokyo's Music Hall, BIRTH Shinjuku, a band unlike any other will be formed. The band will feature Dir en Grey’s Die on guitar, Angie’s Masahiko Okamoto on bass, MOON CHILD’s Kei Kashiyama on drums, and Ryo Horikawa, best known for his role as Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z, on lead vocals. Other voice actors are expected to perform in the same lineup. Link

Italy and Japan Combined in America

A new restaurant in the heart of Milwaukee, Wisconsin looks to bring together two very different styles into one unique idea. During the workweek, Dick’s Restaurant serves up classic Italian dishes, including their signature $100 Pizza (foie gras, kobe beef, truffles). On the weekends, the atmosphere transforms into a club and bar, complete with two DJs and, the best part, six different TV screens streaming anime at the same time. Link

RIP Hiroshi Yamauchi

Former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi passed away this week from complications of pneumonia. He was 84. Between 1949 and 2002, Yamauchi led Nintendo, transforming it from a playing card business into the gaming juggernaut it is today. He was also responsible for the discovery of Shigeru Miyamoto, who went on to create Nintendo’s most iconic characters. Link
