The Master Steps Down

After an astounding 50 year career in film, legendary director Hayao Miyazaki has announced his official and final retirement (he's entertained the idea of retiring since 1997). Miyazaki was the chief creative force behind Studio Ghibli and directed films like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. His last movie, The Wind Rises, is currently showing in Japan and will be released in the US by Disney.

Trigger Reveals Intro Song, Animation

Studio Trigger's first full length anime Kill la Kill has a new trailer. The trailer is narrated by a new character, Kamui Senkutsu, who is a "living sailor uniform." Kill la Kill premieres in October.

Jormungand Dub Cast Revealed

FUNimation gave fans a taste of the cast expected for their dub of Jormungand. The cast for the urban warfare anime features Micah Solusod, Anastasia Munoz, Brittney Karbowski, Greg Ayres, and Kent Williams. No date has been announced but a clip has been released. (Warning: the following clip contains mild language.)

Maken-Ki! Dub Cast Revealed

FUNimation also gave fans the heads-up on their dub of 2011's Maken-Ki!. Based on the manga by Hiromitsu Takeda, the cast includes Ian Sinclair, Monica Rial, Chloe Ragnbone, Tia Ballard, and Brittney Karbowski. The title hits American shores October 12. Link

Miku Has Arrived for a PS3 Concert

For the first time, a Hatsune Miku video game will be available for Western audiences. After several petitions and much pleading Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F will come for the PS3.

EVA Unit 01, Meet Vocaloid Unit 01

In other Vocaloid news, Vocaloid artist Mitchie M. called in a big name for work on the cover art of his self-titled album. Yoshiyuki Sadmoto, best known as the character designer for Neon Genesis Evangelion, drew Hatsune Miku true to the mecha show's art style. The CD has a release date of November 6. Link

Famous Gag Dub Returns to Circulation

The dub for Ghost Stories is viewed by many to be one of the best gag dubs in anime. With the closure of ADV Films, the title has sat in storage for quite some time. Now, with help from Discotek, this famous title returns in 2014 on DVD. The set will include the gag dub and a subtitled version with original Japanese track. Link

The Titan Killer's Past

In a preview for the November issue of the shōjo magazine ARIA, Gan Sunaaku (Gargantia on the Venderous Planet) and Hikaru Suruga announced their collaboration on an Attack on Titan spin-off manga. The manga, titled A Choice With No Regrets, will feature the characters of Levi and Erwin in their rise from commoners on the street to the prominent roles they hold in the military.

Toonami Removes Their Mask

For weeks, TV anime block Toonami has hinted at a "goodie" to go along with their premiere of the film Evangelion 2.22 on Saturday night. The unexpected treat came in the form of the television premiere of Production I.G.'s Kick-Heart. The film ran twice following the conclusion of the Evangelion film.
