Legendary Musician Holds Rare Concert

Imaginative composer and piano virtuoso Yoko Kanno will present a one-night concert on August 11th at Otakon in Baltimore. Kanno is the talent behind some of anime's greatest soundtracks, including Cowboy Bebop.

The Woman Called Fujiko Mine Dub Cast Released

FUNimation has announced the cast for Lupin the III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine. An all-star cast highlights actors from previous Lupin incarnations, with Michelle Ruff as Fujiko Mine and Sonny Strait as Arséne Lupin III. Expect a July 30 release date.

Eureka Seven AO Dub Cast Released

FUNimation also announced the dub cast for another anime, Eureka Seven AO. The sequel to the acclaimed Eureka Seven will star Micah Solusod, Lindsay Seidel, Todd Haberkorn, and Monica Rial. The DVD and Blu-Ray drop October 15.

Michiko and Hatchin Dub Cast Released

FUNimation’s last dub cast announcement is for Michiko and Hatchin, the directorial debut of The Woman Called Fujiko Mine’s Saya Yamamoto. The cast brings together Monica Rial and Jad Saxton as the titular characters. The date of release stands at September 17.

Horror Director Resurrects a Monster

Director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) has been touring the interview circuit promoting his most recent film, Pacific Rim. Throughout the interviews, one tidbit keeps cropping up: his hopes for creating a live-action TV series of Naoki Urasawa’s Monster. He recently submitted a pilot script to HBO. Link

Film Producer Asks For Peace

Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki is making it clear that Japan should not go to war. In a recent statement, he criticized Prime Minster Shinzo Abe for his proposal to remove the Article 9 clause enacted in WWII. Quote, "I doubt most people outside of Japan even know that we have Article 9…This peace that Japan has wouldn't have been possible without it." Link

New Crowdfunding Site Honors Classics

Anime Sols is a new website that operates much like Kickstarter. The difference is that DVD releases of classic anime are the intended target. Such titles include Yatterman, Creamy Mami, and Black Jack TV. Link

Toonami Opens Its Docks

This previous Saturday marked the triumphant return of One Piece to the Toonami schedule. This time, it featured the FUNimation dub. It airs every Sunday at 1:00 AM ET.

Needless to Say…

Magazine Ultra Jump has announced the end of Kami Imai’s manga Needless. The end comes after nine years of serialization. The story told of the aftermath of WWIII as the landscape of Japan became polluted with Black Spots. People corrupted by the pollution gained superpowers and were known as the Needless. Link

Titanic Concept Art

Concept designer Kouji Hajima (Captain Harlock, Les Miserables) is excited for the live-action Attack on Titan movie. So excited that he made an original film poster. He is now working to make sure it becomes the real artwork. Link

GAINAX Becomes The Sensei

Anime and game creator Takami Akai (Gurren Lagann) announced the creation of a cram school for aspiring animators, courtesy of GAINAX. The Gaina Eizō Jyuku School intends to take three teams of five students and have each one create a 10-minute short film. Link

Town Honors Famed Studio

The hot spring town of Beppu in Kyushu is looking to promote tourism. Their solution is a series of exhibitions devoted to anime studio Tatsunoko Production Co. The studio is known best for the titles of Gatchaman and Speed Racer. Link
