And the Big Pokemon News Is
The big Pokemon news that we hinted at last week is that two new Pokemon games have been announced for the 3DS: Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. Both games will be presented in glorious polygonal 3D, a franchise first. Find your new adventure October 2013.

Scottish Festival To Show Hosoda, Ghibli
February 10th marks the fifth anniversary of the Glasgow Youth Film Festival. Topping the bill are Mamoru Hosoda’s Wolf Children and Goro Miyazaki’s From Up on Poppy Hill. Hosada is best known for the two anime The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summar Wars, while Goro is part of Studio Ghibli. They will share this honor with an unknown third anime premiere, presented by the cosplay group Scotland Loves Anime. Link

Battle Royale Remake Rumors Rebuked
Marc Pedowitz, President of The CW network, has denied rumors that his network is creating a remake of the violent cult film Battle Royale. He stated several reasons including respect for victims of recent mass shootings and the recent success of The Hunger Games film series, which could overshadow the somewhat similar Royale. Link

Oscars Snub Two Anime
Academy Award nominations are out and, what's this, no anime titles to be found. Apparently, two were submitted for consideration. Goro Miyazaki’s film From Up on Poppy Hill and Katsuhiro Otomo’s animated short film Combustible sadly did not receive the necessary votes to advance. The last anime nomination and win was in 2009 with Kunio Kato’s short La Maison en Petits Cubes. Link

AKB48 Members to Play Miku and Rin
Senbonzakura is the tenth official musical in a series based on the songs of Vocaloid. Joining an already stacked cast are AKB48 members Haruka Ishida as Hatsune Miku and Miori Ichikawa as Rin Kagamine in the lead roles. This musical also looks to give the characters of Meiko and Kaito official surnames, Akane and Seine respectively. The play runs through March 13-24 at Hakuhinkan Theater, Tokyo. Link

RIP Kei Goto
Kei “K” Goto, lead singer for hardcore rock band Pay money To my Pain, died on December 30 due to acute heart failure. Following a legal autopsy, his fellow bandmates announced his passing on their website and shared their thoughts about how he changed their lives. The band sang themes for Buzzer Beater and One Outs and Goto lent his vocals to the Mobile Suit Gundam arcade game Extreme vs. Full Boost. Link

Totoro Animator Bakes Up A New Recipe
Fukuoka-based bread company Francois has debuted a commercial animated by Yoshiharu Sato, animation director for My Neighbor Totoro. The commercial follows Arles and Cassis, two French lovers looking for each other amidst artistic landscapes.
