I understand the changes but I still prefer the older version.
I felt it was more organized before because I would know which ones are the top viewed works and the new ones. The top viewed works would help give me an idea on what everyone on the site are interested in drawing and viewing. I don't make it on the top that often but not making it didn't really discourage me. I just like to see my friends commenting on and enjoying my works.
I like looking at the top eight because that would motivate me to try hard and I would see the top works as my inspiration.
I miss looking at the old layout and back then, the page felt more active. Now it kind of look uninteresting...
But I guess this would help to not discourage the newcomers and give everyone an opportunity for their works to be viewed
It's kind of hard to look up the most active art pieces.Personally I would want to see the popular and active fanarts to appear automatically for me, just like the old version did. I understand that we want to share the spotlight for newcomers, but now it seems like there's no spotlight (unless you look for it) so it sort decrease my motivation to produce better art...you know what I mean? However, I appreciate your effort to make theOtaku a better place for everyone!

I liked the old version more, but I'm not saying I don't see why it got changed, and I'm sure many people could like this one more. Maybe a part of the reason why is that I usually went through the Fan Art page, which is still more active than the others.
Personally, I enjoyed seeing "will my drawing reach the top 8 today?" but I guess if I want to see I can still sort it by Most Active.
"By always highlighting the most popular works at the top, we weren't giving enough attention to newcomers". Hmmmmm, I guess I can see the logic behind it but...I am sure there were artists who were new to the site and still got their art higlighted, people surely noticed it if it was good?
I hope I'll get used to it over time though . Thank you for trying to improve it :)
Personally I preferred the previous style, and that this 'new' way just look like the even older way. I thought it was good to have both new art and quality/popular art. Maybe there could have been a few more rows in the newest art so more could get exposure. It might work well for everything, except fan art, because fan art gets more submissions than the others. There are other things that can be improved, but it's your site, it's your choices.
Courage isnt a matter of not being afraid, Its being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway!
I think this update makes complete and total sense. The top eight was populated mostly by the same people each day anyway. And it would especially tick me off when art thieves, tracers, and base users would get on there. My only gripe is a personal one: I never made it to #1.
Actually, I do have some questions. First, is there a difference to how many thumbnail images premium members can see, as opposed to regular members? Second, will there be any more improvements to the site? I'd love for theO to come back to life again, and although I'm just a user, I'm willing to help out with that in any way I can.
Call it karma. Call it luck. Me, I just don't give a... BOUNCE!
I was always skipping through the functional page, so it's okay with me. And loooved the new weekly highlght sistem. That way more people will see our work. But it's a bit similar to minitokyo right now, i have to admit.
HM... I'm a bit sleep deprived as I type this, but oh well. HERE GOES?
I can't say I quite like the new page. I liked having both the most active and most recent works on the same page, even if there isn't steady uploads from day to day.
The front page is a bit concerning, as well: even though the fan work will be featured for a week, there's no direct link to it from its front page feature. On a particularly busy week, the featured work could get lost in submissions and impossible to find, despite being "featured" on the front page. (This here is really my main concern. I want to be able to easily access the featured work!)
BUT ANYWAY, it's your call and I suppose I'll get used to it.

I think this is a pretty good change. It makes the site look less dead.

I like the new ideas! It's sad that there's not enough contributors anymore that we need to change to this. But I like it and hope it works out.
