Good to see a definite answer on the Pixiv thing. Most people don't bother to check whether what they use is fan art or not and just settle for saying "image from Google". That's why I agree with StarsSmile's suggestion of adding a section where uploaders have to give credit for the images and resources they used. A lot of people don't even bother listing what they used and leave the description space blank or include a smiley or something. It'd certainly help weed out some of the plagiarists and terrible quality (enlarged screencaps, stuff made in MS Paint) uploads.

As Angel Zakuro already said, I thought this issue happened well over a year ago?
I think this is a good measure to prevent fan art use. I think linking to the original source image(s) in general should be the rule of thumb. I know most card artists provide the original source image, but there's always those few who you're not quite sure about being legit.
This policy change was truly needed and I'm really happy to read this post!
In my opinion, though, those previously uploaded ecards and wallpapers should be deleted for obvious reasons. Even if there will be moved to Draft section, nothing changes the fact that art was used without given permission. (Unless, of course, the uploader has the artist's consent, because I know there are some theO graphics makers who ask for permission before they use the art and they prove it too).
I also think that Zerochan should be mentioned in the policy change too, since most people on theO think that Zerochan is a scans site.
And... I don't want to sound picky, but a section for scan credits with links would be nice (similar to the fanart credits in caption, at least for the new uploads). It's tiring to see "picture taken from Google"...
Ah, finally. I've seen a couple users(calling them out would be rude) use fanart from pixiv in their walls and cards. I had mentioned them in chat to my friend and Chee went ahead and reported the works and stuff.
I thought this already happened over a year ago? >>' People started using fanart again? O: I know I had a ton of things removed when this issue came up before, after they were submitted and on the site for a whiiile...it's nice things won't be deleted outright now...but yeah. Again, I totally thought this policy was already in effect. XD
This is a nice policy change but, more than anything, that post about it is great. I think a lot here still don't know about that "using fanarts" issue.
I guess only MT and Kisuki.net are really safe, Zerochan... well, there are almost only fanarts there. And Animepaper allows fanarts so people should be careful about AP too...
Yes, they are! But MT only use published fanarts so using scans from MT is safe. They don't allow fan arts scans unless they have been published in an artbook or something of that kind, anyway.
I don't guess I understand the difference.. Regardless of what site it comes from, isn't it still the same? Just because a pic is from pixiv, doesn't mean that's the only place it can be found.. It doesn't really matter to me though, just thought it was curious..
Ah, I thought this was already an implemented policy. ^ ^; I had a lot of my stuff removed a while back for this same reason. However, I did notice it was still slipping by the system.
When at first this happened, I did deem it unfair. I realize now that it's a lot more unfair to the artists. c: So I'm glad it's going to be cracked down on.
Glad to know the Pixiv arts from Minitokyo are still safe though! Had me worried there for a moment. D:
I think this is a really good policy. For a while now me, and other users, have been reporting works with original links to the images on Pixiv, and nothing has been done for a long time. I understand that you're all busy though, so I'm not complaining. But it's about time something gets done about this. I know we've had issues with this in the past; I figure everyone would know better by now but there's still a couple users in particular that rely on Zerochan for their image source and I've found a lot of those images on Pixiv.

That's very fair. Thank you for the notice.

For purposes of clarification, would any such work in theOtaku be removed even if it has the consent or permission of the Pixiv artist?

In that case put a link to MT and a note in your caption and you'll be fine.
