In a perfect world where Toonami has enough money to throw around, I would like their whole block to consist of shows new to the channel. Yeah, I love Outlaw Star, DBZ, Ghost in the Shell, and all the other shows they've aired on the network, but I think it's time to start anew. When I was still in grade school, Toonami was something for me to look forward to , especially since I didn't have money to buy anime, or time to watch a whole series. If Toonami could show at least a 2 hour block of anime new to the network, I can promise you it would be awesome to current fans, as well as invite tons of new people to check anime out!
I saw that update (found here: link) and it didn't really surprise me that much. After reading the brief comment about AS having limited resources, and how some anime belong to the competition, the current lineup makes some sense, I guess. As a first step, it should work, but I think it was a tad conservative and safe.
Maybe in the next round they'll take a shot at something like Panty and Stocking or Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika, if they get the needed ratings for this round. Here's hoping Toonami does well!
Deadman Wonderland is awesome! Thanks for the info!
Still I think the line-up needs to diversify. Inuyasha and Full Metal Alchemist hooked a lot of fans in a way that DW just won't. They need something more... something EPIC.
At first I was all "what in the name of short shorts is Toonami?", until it hit me XD. Wow, I haven't seen Toonami since... since I was in grade school!
Awesomeness. Deadman Wonderland, really?! I've almost died and went to heaven! Let's see... what shoes would I put in...
For old times sake, I'd like to see Yu Yu Hakusho again, as well as Tenchi Muyo! And where's the third season of Code Geass (I know it has nothing to do with Lulu, but still!)? And how about gettin' either some Gosick, Higurashi or Another in the mix too? This has nothing to do with Adult Swim, but I really miss it when they used to show Samurai Jack on Toonami TT^TT.
The schedule has been somewhat released. Toonami has announced the return of Bleach while adding Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins to the lineup. In addition, there's FMA: Brotherhood, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and once again, Cowboy Bebop. There's also been name dropping like Gundam Wing and - hold on to your boxers - Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. The last one I wasn't expecting but, if it's what the fans want, they shall receive.
I agree with much of what you say; why not show newer stuff? Build up the fan base, rather than side with nostalgia. I don't mean to say, suggest, or imply that Toonami should ignore the older crowd, but they seriously can't focus their lineup entirely on classics or things we've already seen many times. I love Bebop, but they should - ahem - try on Panty and Stocking. (There was a push to air this one, actually.) If the North American anime industry hopes to re-invigorate itself, it also has to attract younger, newer fans to newer anime that they'll grow up with. And so on.
I would introduce newer anime like Hakuouki, or even Eden of the east. newer stuff like that. Maybe mix in some old anime like Yu Yu hakusho, Wolf's rain Gundam seed, etc. It would be a mix of both

I've been read/stalking this for a while trying to decide what I wanted and... :I Why are you all choosing old stuff? Honestly I would want something that has either A. Never shown on TV in America EVER or B. is a continuation of something that has been on TV that they never finished. Like Naruto Shippuden or the second Inu-Yasha series.
And I would like to see at least ONE shoujo. I mean..they showed Sailor Moon so why not another?
I love how people are like, "Show the new generation the good stuff from the old day"...but I am sorry...but if we wanted to watch it we could buy it or watch it online. I don't want them to show Dragonball (of any sort)...It is over done... :I
Why not show something new?
I'd say Naurto Shippuden, Bleach, Gundam 00, Inuyasha, Full Metal Panic, Fariy Tail, M.A.R. Air Gear, Prince of Tennis, and more that I can't think of at the moment.
this is good news! I was worried anime might be losing steam in the US. D: Not introducing it to new audiences, anyway.
I'd put on my favorites, Wolf's Rain and Blood +.
Love the fact people have actually heard of IGPX. When it came out, it was my favorite anime bar none. Yet when I ask friends, it's like it never existed. So here's my list of series I would love to see:
IGPX (Can't go wrong with racing mecha.)
Megas XLR (The only American show at the time in which Steven Blum's character was as awesome as his anime characters [this is pre-Korra so Amon doesn't count].)
Samurai Jack (Maybe this time we can get an ending that makes sense.)
Pokemon Chronicles (The last Pokemon series that didn't make me cringe a little.)
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Truly a departure from the magical girl genre, this standout hit is likely to cause waves with those who grew up with Sailor Moon. As far as new animes go, this one has definitely got what it takes.)
Gurren Lagann (out of all my choices, this seems most likely appear on the Toonami schedule.)
Samurai Champloo (Toonami will want to pick choice Funimation shows due to the channel's cancellation. The show has Steven Blum, a decent story but great journey, and BREAKDANCING SAMURAI! Need I go on?)
A Gundam reincarnation or two (It just doesn't feel like Toonami without Gundam.)
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (This world needs more humor in it.)
Either Hare+Guu/Gankutsuou/Lupin III (Throw in a little known anime nobody expects to shake things up)
In addition, play anime movies and bring back the music videos (maybe Gorillaz tribute night?)

Regardless, I agree with what Aishia said: sure, anime is more populous now, but I hardly watch it. I have to pay for Netflix, and I'm not a big fan of subtitles, so I longed for the days of anime on TV (that wasn't Bleach and the same things Adult Swim keeps airing since 2007).
I would want Toonami to bring back the likes of Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin, mainly because they never finished their runs on the block. As for new stuff, Tiger & Bunny would be perfectly at home there, and hey, the dub cast is currently being announced, so it's plausible.
