In a perfect world where Toonami has enough money to throw around, I would like their whole block to consist of shows new to the channel. Yeah, I love Outlaw Star, DBZ, Ghost in the Shell, and all the other shows they've aired on the network, but I think it's time to start anew. When I was still in grade school, Toonami was something for me to look forward to , especially since I didn't have money to buy anime, or time to watch a whole series. If Toonami could show at least a 2 hour block of anime new to the network, I can promise you it would be awesome to current fans, as well as invite tons of new people to check anime out!

I saw that update (found here: link) and it didn't really surprise me that much. After reading the brief comment about AS having limited resources, and how some anime belong to the competition, the current lineup makes some sense, I guess. As a first step, it should work, but I think it was a tad conservative and safe.
Maybe in the next round they'll take a shot at something like Panty and Stocking or Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika, if they get the needed ratings for this round. Here's hoping Toonami does well!

Deadman Wonderland is awesome! Thanks for the info!
Still I think the line-up needs to diversify. Inuyasha and Full Metal Alchemist hooked a lot of fans in a way that DW just won't. They need something more... something EPIC.
At first I was all "what in the name of short shorts is Toonami?", until it hit me XD. Wow, I haven't seen Toonami since... since I was in grade school!
Awesomeness. Deadman Wonderland, really?! I've almost died and went to heaven! Let's see... what shoes would I put in...
For old times sake, I'd like to see Yu Yu Hakusho again, as well as Tenchi Muyo! And where's the third season of Code Geass (I know it has nothing to do with Lulu, but still!)? And how about gettin' either some Gosick, Higurashi or Another in the mix too? This has nothing to do with Adult Swim, but I really miss it when they used to show Samurai Jack on Toonami TT^TT.
I will definitely be watching this on the 26th!

I'm surprised I've not chimed in here yet.
For stuff that would be absolutely perfect, we need Tiger & Bunny in here ASAP. That's an absolute shoe-in and would fit beautifully with the block.
I've jokingly said that Madoka Magica and PASWG should air back-to-back while people who have no idea what they are go "wtf" while the rest of us go "LOLOLOLOLOL". But I think Madoka would make for a nice modern-day substitute for Sailor Moon, at any rate.
I would like some old shows, but I wouldn't want the entire block comprised of them. Maybe have one older show air on the block, and rotate around when it finishes. [That said, I would love to see Sailor Moon uncut and seen to completion, but Toei refuses to stop sitting on the license for that, it seems.]
Honestly though, I've been more excited for the return of TOM, SARA [though she's not going to be around just yet] and The Absolution more than the shows themselves. >3>

o.o i never really got to watch anything Toonami related while it was running, i didn't really get into anime until i was a senior in high school
i'd really love to see:
Samurai Deeper Kyo
i love those shows, i don't think many people know about Vandread because it aired on the Encore network, but it's most definitely an awesome show

The schedule has been somewhat released. Toonami has announced the return of Bleach while adding Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins to the lineup. In addition, there's FMA: Brotherhood, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and once again, Cowboy Bebop. There's also been name dropping like Gundam Wing and - hold on to your boxers - Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. The last one I wasn't expecting but, if it's what the fans want, they shall receive.
Neko Girl (Otaku Eternal) | Posted 05/22/12 | Reply
Exactly. The story may be good with the classics, but the animation could turn away some new fans. :)
Otaku Idol (Otaku Eternal) | Posted 05/22/12 | Reply
I agree with much of what you say; why not show newer stuff? Build up the fan base, rather than side with nostalgia. I don't mean to say, suggest, or imply that Toonami should ignore the older crowd, but they seriously can't focus their lineup entirely on classics or things we've already seen many times. I love Bebop, but they should - ahem - try on Panty and Stocking. (There was a push to air this one, actually.) If the North American anime industry hopes to re-invigorate itself, it also has to attract younger, newer fans to newer anime that they'll grow up with. And so on.
State Alchemist (Otaku Eternal) | Posted 05/22/12 | Reply
I'd put Panty and Stocking on. >:D Or Fairy Tail.

I would introduce newer anime like Hakuouki, or even Eden of the east. newer stuff like that. Maybe mix in some old anime like Yu Yu hakusho, Wolf's rain Gundam seed, etc. It would be a mix of both
I've been read/stalking this for a while trying to decide what I wanted and... :I Why are you all choosing old stuff? Honestly I would want something that has either A. Never shown on TV in America EVER or B. is a continuation of something that has been on TV that they never finished. Like Naruto Shippuden or the second Inu-Yasha series.
And I would like to see at least ONE shoujo. I mean..they showed Sailor Moon so why not another?
I love how people are like, "Show the new generation the good stuff from the old day"...but I am sorry...but if we wanted to watch it we could buy it or watch it online. I don't want them to show Dragonball (of any sort)...It is over done... :I
Why not show something new?

Bring those back UNEDITED (i.e. cleaned up). :)

I'd say Naurto Shippuden, Bleach, Gundam 00, Inuyasha, Full Metal Panic, Fariy Tail, M.A.R. Air Gear, Prince of Tennis, and more that I can't think of at the moment.

this is good news! I was worried anime might be losing steam in the US. D: Not introducing it to new audiences, anyway.
I'd put on my favorites, Wolf's Rain and Blood +.
The Hero of Time (Otaku Eternal) | Posted 05/20/12 | Reply
Bring it all back :)
Dragon Ball Z
Yu Yu hakusho
hehe might need TV now

Love the fact people have actually heard of IGPX. When it came out, it was my favorite anime bar none. Yet when I ask friends, it's like it never existed. So here's my list of series I would love to see:
IGPX (Can't go wrong with racing mecha.)
Megas XLR (The only American show at the time in which Steven Blum's character was as awesome as his anime characters [this is pre-Korra so Amon doesn't count].)
Samurai Jack (Maybe this time we can get an ending that makes sense.)
Pokemon Chronicles (The last Pokemon series that didn't make me cringe a little.)
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Truly a departure from the magical girl genre, this standout hit is likely to cause waves with those who grew up with Sailor Moon. As far as new animes go, this one has definitely got what it takes.)
Gurren Lagann (out of all my choices, this seems most likely appear on the Toonami schedule.)
Samurai Champloo (Toonami will want to pick choice Funimation shows due to the channel's cancellation. The show has Steven Blum, a decent story but great journey, and BREAKDANCING SAMURAI! Need I go on?)
A Gundam reincarnation or two (It just doesn't feel like Toonami without Gundam.)
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (This world needs more humor in it.)
Either Hare+Guu/Gankutsuou/Lupin III (Throw in a little known anime nobody expects to shake things up)
In addition, play anime movies and bring back the music videos (maybe Gorillaz tribute night?)
HOLY CRAP!!! I have only dreamed of this happening.
List of anime I want on "New Toonami"(That's what I call it)
."Hikaru no Go"
."Yu Yu Hakusho"
."Okami-san and Her Seven Companions"
."Rosario + Vampire"
."B Gata H Kei/Yamada's First Time"
Can't wait 'till this comes!
Toonami needs to try to get their hands on Katekyo Hitman Reborn.

SyFy played Monster, though I don't know if they did the whole show. Of course there's nothing I know of preventing Toonami from playing things that have already been aired on other channels.
I'd forgot about SyFy running Chrono Crusade.
If they played a CLAMP on Toonami I'd prefer X personally.

It makes me so happy that so many people want to see Slayers in the line-up as that's my favorite series ever. And it would be perfect for the timeslot as there's no really anything objectionable in the series. I wouldn't mind seeing maybe some of the stuff they used to show on Adult Swim like Eureka 7 as a refresher course for the upcoming Eureka 7 Ao.
but put stuff like vampire knight
a mix of stuff thats been on
and what has never seen a tv release
i wanna see shin chan on [AS] again tho
OMG if someone ever put jrock PVs on tv i would spaz with happiness

I had been hearing rumblings/rumors about Toonami's return for a while now, and it is pretty cool to see that the rumors are actually true.
The thing that excites me about the whole situation, is that for years i've shared memories of how cool Toonami was, and how it opened doors for alot of people (myself included) to finally get a chance to see anime on a regular basis.
Back in the day Toonami was my main outlet when it came to anime, because back then Wal Mart and many other general merchandise stores didnt really carry a large assortment of the anime genre.
Everyday after school id come home and get all of my VHS tapes ready for each show that was being aired that day, and i would spend my afternoons recording anime episodes. That's how my anime collection started, and I always wanted that same experience for other anime fans, especially younger fans.
Younger anime fans can now get the chance to experience all of the cool stuff that older Toonami fans experienced during it's previous run, and i really think that could bridge the Generation gap that has plagued the anime scene for a while now.
As for specific shows, i personally cant make distinct choices, but i really think that they should go with a balanced line-up this time around, much like the older Toonami line-up.
I'd try to choose a blend of new shows, as well as classic shows, and i'd try to cover multiple genres as well, so it can cover a wide array of audiences from younger/older fans.
Here would be an example of a line-up (in my opinion)
Full Metal Panic
It covers a wide age range, plus it is friendly to current anime fans, or people that are just getting into anime, plus it covers multiple genres such as comedy, mecha, action, drama, .
Im sure they have a blend of newer and older shows set up and ready to go when they do launch the new toonami, and i'm certainly looking forward to what they have to offer.
Hopefully the years of wait will be worth it :)
SyFy Network ran Chrono Crusade last year for a little.
I'd like to see something besides sci-fi/fighting shounen series. Not that I don't enjoy Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist, etc, but there are a lot of funny series too. Kyo Kara Maoh, Slayers and Fairy Tale all have action and humor. And there are shoujo titles like Ayashi no Ceres or X (CLAMP) that have mass appeal too. I mean, since Inuyasha, has any major network aired any shoujo series? That show was a gateway for tons of new anime fans.
Madman With a Box (Otaku Eternal) | Posted 05/18/12 | Reply
I think a current Toonami would be good if they balanced some classic stuff from the original version, like Outlaw Star and Gundam Wing, with some good stuff that didn't get on TV over here before, like Chrono Crusade, Slayers, Full Metal Panic!... Idk, there's a lot of good shows to choose from.
Otakuite+ | Posted 05/18/12 | Reply
In a dream world: SAILOR MOON!
More realistically: Some newer, popular anime. Maybe Black Butler or Angel Beats to show off some different stuff?
Grand Otaku | Posted 05/18/12 | Reply
I think they should a few anime with a bunch of episodes while playing a lot of the standard 26ish episode animes.
Otaku Idol (Otaku Eternal) | Posted 05/18/12 | Reply
If only Toonami could work in conjunction with legal simulcasts that air current anime, e.g. like what FUNimation does with shows like Jormungand, et. al. You know, have a nice mix of currently airing anime and older classics.

I now have a reason to love television again.
My inner child-self is bouncing off of the walls..
Oh! Maybe. Just maybe, (strongly doubt it) they'll be able to continue Rurouni Kenshin.. When it was on Toonami years and years back, they couldn't get passed season 1 because of... some... blood and stuff... I'm fangirl-ing...
Then again... That's a terrible idea... I never spoke.
I'm a veggie, dawg (Otaku Eternal) | Posted 05/18/12 | Reply
I don't know why they took it off in the first place honestly. Oh well, I'm not too concerned since I don't really watch TV these days. I guess it'd be good for CN though, if they can gain back the anime audience and win over non-anime watchers.
Otaku Eternal | Posted 05/18/12 | Reply
Although I don't have Adult Swim in my TV satelite, Toonami's return is good news.
As for action anime I'd put in Toonami if I were in charge:

It would be great if they brought the Tegami Bachi anime over to the U.S. I'd also like to see a re-dub of Naruto Shippuuden, since Disney wrecked it. XD Agreeing with some of the others, it'd be cool if they brought back RurouKen and some of the older titles -- I'm just so excited it's back!
Goggalor (Otaku Eternal) | Posted 05/18/12 | Reply
I'm waiting for all the kids to pop up and go "That's where Naruto aired, right?"
Regardless, I agree with what Aishia said: sure, anime is more populous now, but I hardly watch it. I have to pay for Netflix, and I'm not a big fan of subtitles, so I longed for the days of anime on TV (that wasn't Bleach and the same things Adult Swim keeps airing since 2007).
I would want Toonami to bring back the likes of Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin, mainly because they never finished their runs on the block. As for new stuff, Tiger & Bunny would be perfectly at home there, and hey, the dub cast is currently being announced, so it's plausible.
"In Kat's wor we trust."
Something like IGPX, Outlaw Star, or Dot.Hack//sign, Toonami was really good at the off beat shonen titles.
I would love to see the tie-in movies like the ones for FMA and Trigun Badlands.

Maybe bring back Blue Submarine 6, I never heard of it til they pulled that April Fool's trick but it looks interesting.
Or show something new, like Tiger and Bunny or something.
I wonder if they're changing the whole schedule for sat/sun or just parts of it, guess we'll see.
