Christmas Special wallpaperotaku

This is my entry for the Christmas Special Challenge. I'm writing about Syaoran and Sakura's separate experiences and how they are reunited for christmas; this also allows for some story after the epilogue of tsubasa, so there may be spoilers and complete b-sing XD

Syaoran was sitting at the edge of a fountain, eyes distant and his feet dangling over the frozen water. A sad tune was coming from his lips:
"I'll be home for Christmas, you can count on me. I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams," followed by a heavy sigh.

He wasn't expecting Fai to intrude on the scene and begin signing along. When the heavily cloaked mage skipped toward him with the song exaggerated in a falsetto, the memory earring he had been holding practically jumped out of Syaoran's hand and slid across the ice.

"See what you did?" Kurogane growled, appearing from behind the winter coated trees. It looked like he might have been sleeping before the entire racket. "You should stick to whistling and cooking."

Fai shook a finger at the ninja. "No cookies for you, Santa put you on the naughty list this year. I would know."

Trying not to look embarrased, Syaoran retrieved the piece of jewelry and put it on his ear. Looking to his companions, he shook his head ambiguously.

"Don't try to help his case," Fai said cheerfully. "Maybe if he sang once in a while he'd rank higher and make it to the nice list for once."

Mokona, who was sitting on Fai's shoulder, giggled. "You're just saying that because you don't know what to buy him for Christmas this year."

Fai coughed and returned to his first point. "You were singing, Syaoran. Who knew you had a beautiful voice? And very romantic as well, I might add."

"Mage..." Kurogane warned. He knew Fai's playful attitude was highly inappropriate. But Syaoran could speak for himself.

"I left Sakura behind. I told her I loved her, and then I abandoned her. What kind of man does that?"

Not this conversation again, Kurogane thought. He placed a mittened hand on the boy's shoulder and assumed a stern expression. "One who has no other choice. Your mere existance is a paradox, and you agreed to this price so that the witch's servant could stay in one place and help other people at the shop. It was a good thing you did and necessary too. Sakura herself predicted a painful ending would befall you if she were to come along."

Syaoran was not comforted. "There had to have been some other way!Yukito said the clones were destined to be together. Now their souls are inside of Sakura and I. So what about us? Well? Christmas is tomorrow and I can't even be there for her one day out of the year. But you two-three-- chose to pay my price with me and we get travel together endlessly. How fair is that?"

Fai looked downcast, unsure of what he could say to fix the situation. Kurogane just looked mad. "You're right. We did CHOOSE. So did Sakura."

Fai and Mokona understood the words Kurogane wasn't saying. Fai didn't have a home to go back to, but he still chose to continue the journey. Kurogane had Tomoyo back home waiting for him, but he was comitted to Syaoran's cause. They all wished for the day they would find a world to call home. They were prepared to face hardship together, if hardship they found before that day came.

Syaoran understood it too.

"Forgive me. I did not mean to sound ungrateful," he said, regaining control of himself. "It's selfish of me to miss her, when you all have sacrificed so much for me. I just...."

[BREAK]

"But that's not true!" Mokona shouted."You still have the earring! We could visit her. Right now, if you'ld like."

Syaoran's eyes widened.

"It's just that recently you've been holding onto the memory earring, wearing it, you know? So I haven't been able to activate its magic when I dimension hop."

Kurogane looked sadly down at the young archaeologist. Recently after their arrival to Twigon Country, the first world they had visited after Clow, Syaoran had requested that Mokona let him wear the earring out of nostalgia. Ever since then, Syaoran had become obssessed with it, making Kurogane very concerned. Mokona was happy to give it over, and Fai didn't seem to grasp its implications. Over time, however, it had become apparent that the earring had a tendency of sucking up memory from those who handled it the most. It was a subtle loss at first, but it increased dramatically with Syaoran, who often dwelled on the memories stored within. If Mokona had been wearing the earring, they may have been able to revisit Sakura sooner, because it contained the memories of her clone.

Syaoran blinked a few times, tears glazing a trail down his cheek as a smile began to form. "Ironic." He said simply.

Kurogane scratched his head. "Then you really did forget... Kid, you worry me sometimes. And that earring was the culprit too. It made you..."

"Angsty?" Fai said helpfully.

"Well," Kurogane began, but could not think of what to say after that. Angsty certainly described the teenager's behavior.

Mokona jumped up and down with excitement as Syaoran willfully passed the earring to him. "Ready to see the princess?" Mokona asked with as much enthusiam as Syaoran was feeling.

"Sounds good to me," Fai said with a "Wheet Whoo."

"Anything if it means Syaoran will be done whining," Kurogane said as he let out a large yawn.

Syaoran wiped his tear away looking confident. "I'm already done. Let’s go."

"I can't believe this," Sakura thought to herself. She took one of the large velvet pillows on her bed and squeezed it tightly. "Tomorrow is going to be the first Christmas in Clow Country since time began to unravel. How can I bear to enjoy myself without Syaoran though?" She caught herself. "I'm being selfish... I can wait. I promised myself that I would wait forever if I had to. It worked for the Syaoran's mother, the being within me. I must have faith in her success. Christmas is nothing compared to the day Syaoran and everyone else returns with the glad tidings of discovering a new home where we can all be at peace. Besides, he would want me to be happy."
