Cool tutorial. I love your style, and I love the idea of doing the values first then coloring. We did paintings in my college art class that way - it's called gresaille. I have one of them uploaded in my portfolio here. It's a rose painted in acrylic. (I have both the B&W version and color if you're interested in seeing it.)
Also, I'd love to see your works published as children's stories one day. (I'd buy them. ^^) Rupert seems cool.

I've never thought of coloring this way; puttung the values down first and then adding color. I'll have to try it sometime.
