I can't believe I pulled this off, lol. I know this is blah compared to other digital artworks out there... but this is my VERY FIRST SHOT at digital art, so I'm especially proud of it xD If any of you are familiar with my works, you should know that my ENTIRE gallery is full of pencil/colour pencil art.
Anyway, I digress. This is my entry for The Thief Kuronue's contest, which requires me to draw what I think "The Thief Kuronue" looks like. Well, I guess this is what came to my mind. I know I missed the definition of "thief", which is someone who steals stuff, but my idea is more of the... RPG-ish kind (e.g. the thief/bandit class in FF). I know most thiefs or bandits in games wield daggers, but daggers are kind of boring... so let's make him hold a katana, or even a nodachi depending on how long you think the blade extends out of this picture, ehehe =P
I never knew I was gonna submit my very first digital piece for a contest... I was just playing around with my new tablet and got carried away, lol. I didn't even consult a tutorial, 'cause I was lazy, so I just played around with the functions myself.
I wanted to use colour pencils but I've decided long ago not to colour anymore pics until I got a set of prismas (I can't find them anywhere! GAH!) All my coloured pics so far are done with CRAYOLA colour pencils... I know -_- Sounds like something only a 5-year-old would use...
Criticism is most welcome! If you wanna be vicious, go ahead ^^ Don't hold back just because it's my first time.
Veteran digital artists please ignore this part below. It's full of crazy random spazzing from a n00b.
- This thing called layers works like MAGIC!
- The colours came out so SOLID! (I've been using colour pencils all my life, and my arm strength that comes with using it)
- The background is so CLEAN! xD No pencil smudges! (The paper is never white when I shade manually...)
- I avoid smudging as much as I can while using pencils, but for this pic I do it all the time ;) It was fun.
- The dodge and burn tools are pretty neat as well! Blending colours has never been this exciting before xD
Medium: Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 (I know it's meant for photo editing, but this is all I have at the moment)
Reference: None
I may submit the raw pencil lineart of this pic in the future.
