Screw the backgrounds ~ Laughs ~ Tis the foreground that is most important (also has a severe loathing of backgrounds so tends to leave everything blank) and thaid I think the background works to show off your main charecter instead of taking all the attention for itself. I have no idea what the contest is but this looks liek a strong entry so I wish you much luck ~ Thumbs up ~ This is a lovely pic ^_^
