As long as you make the card/scan's colors fit the palette, that's fine. :) So say the palette has the colors red, blue, and purple or something...but your scan is black and white. Or maybe it's something else. Yes, if you make the scan have red/blue/purple, then it's ok!
No, you don't need to save them! You can just look at them. Find one you like, and then just find a scan that has similar colors to it. I'm not looking for the EXACT colors to be used. If it's inspired from it, that's fine.
